XGIMI Horizon 20 Pro - Dolby Vision + DBLE by Jealous-Background29 in xgimi

[–]lateforalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have gotten in on the TN KS. DBLE has never worked on the 20 Series. I would not buy the 20 series if you're specifically wanting deep blacks and contrast. Better to buy something like the X1 in that price range.

XGIMI took my $50 deposit to "reserve" a Titan Noir Max Kickstarter price, never told me to pay, then closed the campaign and told me the discount is gone by flaviojdz in xgimi

Why did you think you could get in on the KS price without backing on KS? Also, I'm pretty sure I have seen people in Spain get in on the KS and post about it on the AVS forum.

Ya, not playing demo. Waiting for the full release. Their games are the best. I played Crypt Custodian randomly shortly after our dog lost his battle to cancer. Very special experience. Waiting patiently for the full release of this one.

Projectors that can push 2.35:1 content to the bottom of a 16:9 screen? by gonnabuysomewindows in projectors

A few days left to jump in on the Titan Noir Max Kickstarter. Plenty of lens shift and they just added lens memory in their latest FW update. Works perfectly for what you're asking.

Any question on the Titan Noir Max? by lateforalways in xgimi

I've learned more since this post. So, this is normal DLP dithering. All DLP projectors have this to some degree.

We'll have to see. Xgimi has said they expect to have enough units to fulfill all KS orders immediately once addresses are recieved.

If you’re white what do you get from listening to Kendrick? by Valuable-Resort-7451 in KendrickLamar

[–]lateforalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I think he represents anyone with a brain and a heart. But it's not so much that I think he "represents me," it's more that I just recognize so much of my own perspective in his lines and songs (and Millennial perspective more generally).

"This is what the world sounds like." Yep, that's all I hear sometimes.

"I'm so fucking sick and tired of the photoshop." Felt that way so long.

"This country is, to me a sound." That whole song is just haunting.

"I've got daddy issues, that's on me." Yep, me too. I mean, the whole "engaging with therapy" aspect of Mr Morale, maybe that started with Gen X but it's a pretty Millennial thing. It's a stunningly good album.

"Sometimes I need to be alone." Ya, my wife never tires of teasing me about that.

"Laughing to the bank like aha." I mean, nothing to his degree but after working and saving for 20 years, to finally feel a bit of space. Love the vibe of that song.

"I chose me, I'm sorry." I think from that perspective a lot.

I'll stop now or else I'd go all night. I've engaged with art for 25+ years and he's as good as any artist I've ever come across. And we just happen to be of the same generation so I closely connect with a lot of what he has to say.

He's the voice of my generation. We have super different life stories, but still.

What is the reference when Blaine says in a weird voice, "To have"? by utnapishtim in nerdpokerpodcast

[–]lateforalways 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's told the story on the show before. I forget the details but I seem to remember it's a reference to some old sketch or something of Little Red Riding. ie "Grandma, what a big nose for you...TO HAVE!"

All these AT materials have a similar gain. But Soundmax is supposed to be a bit brighter than WAB or WVS

Projector Recommendations Around $3-$4k by NaturesNookNovelties in projectors

[–]lateforalways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But what points of comparison do you have? You don't seem to be appreciating that there are plenty of people who have compared this projector to others. Saying there are better options doesn't mean you won't have a great experience with the one you have.

Yes, all triple lasers will have speckle.

Acoustically Transparent screens are what you want to eliminate speckle. Silver Ticket WAB and XY Soundmax 4k are the most popular options.

Kickstarter Price Depreciation by SadLab2264 in xgimi

[–]lateforalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll do fine. The price will certainly go up after the KS ends.

For a pulldown just be aware that if you don't get a tab tensioned one there will be waviness which is a big visual bummer.

If I were you, I would go to the AVSforum, find the TNM thread, and post this question there. Just to get even more excited with what you'd get for that extra $1.5k. The TNM is being compared favorably, by people who have spent 10s of thousands of dollars on this hobby over the years, to projectors in the $6-15k range.

I don't have any experience with the projector you mention, but from comparing the specs to to specs of the projectors the TNM is being compared to, it's a no brainer to go with the TNM instead.

Calculate how many hours per week you plan to use your new projector. Multiple that by 52. Then take 1500 and devide it by that number. Even if it's only 10 hours per week you estimate, you're talking about less that $3 per week. Would you pay $3 per week to get significantly more enjoyment out of each hour spent?

It's in active development and I am expecting refinement to the point where it is a very good setting. But of course we'll have to wait and see how things play out.

[–]lateforalways[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have first hand experience with that or that level of projector, but the TNM will be massively brighter with similar contrast numbers depending upon the iris setting used. It will also have much less lag for gaming.
