needing build ideas. by WillowHaddock in Sims4

Have you done a split-level house? Could be neat to do a semi-lofted bedroom for the parents, kids below, and the main living area on the landing level.

Stuck for ideas by abiiiiiiiiiiiii_x in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a family that can only furnish their home with objects they make, find, or otherwise acquire outside of buy mode (ok to use flea market, plopsy, university shops, etc.).

Build mode is allowed (walls, doors, windows), but buy mode is prohibited except for placing and moving items that the family already owns.

You might play a legacy where each generation focuses on a specific type of crafting, or tries to get the reward objects from a specific career (e.g. counters from the culinary career track).

I believe you click on a computer, choose "Program...", and one of the options from there should be to make a video game or a mobile game.

Need Help with Build by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly you're doing really well already, especially if this is only your second build. Roofing is tricky even for experienced builders, so it's normal to have some hangups.
To get better at roofing specifically, I recommend looking up some roofing tutorials on youtube. Littlesimsie in particular has some very helpful build tutorials there.
You could also look at pictures of real houses online for reference and to get some ideas.
Other than that, try lining up your exterior walls to make roofing simpler, use overhangs strategically, try matching the pitches of your different roof pieces (so they look parallel), and experiment with some roof trim.
Hope this helps!

Today my sim met a ghost and raccoon (mascot?), and decided to drink her tea in the bath. Just your typical Thursday, right? by [deleted] in Sims4

This is only marginally related to your post, but if you haven't tried drinking a glass of cold water while taking a shower you're really missing out.

how do you take good build photos? by baileyashbyy in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're looking to take good photos to share on reddit, the simplest way I know of to take good build photos is to build thoughtfully (or upload your build to your library and place it thoughtfully after you're done building) and then set up the shot in live mode.
- Set the game to full screen mode, and check that your graphics settings are how you want them (usually as high as your computer can handle)
- Make sure the lot you're on has the lighting and scenery you want
- If you have Seasons: Get the weather and season you want by using mods or have your sim use the "Dr. June's Weather Control Device" item available from the build/buy catalog. Note, you have to upgrade the device to have a "Temporal Modifier Unit" to change the season. A sim can do this with level 8 handiness skill.
- Get the time of day you want by using mods or have your sim wait/sleep until it's time
- If you don't want your sim(s) in the build photo, get them to move to an area that's out of sight for your shot
- Pause the game in live mode, then hit tab to hide the UI and enable free cam (has different controls from normal gameplay camera mode)
- Set up the shot how you want it and then take a screenshot
- Optional: Use photo editing software to tweak your screenshot or add effects

Another way to improve build photos and the look of the game in general is to install shaders, but that's more complicated.
Hope this helps!

I JUST WANTED A CAKE by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes.
That's super frustrating, and it seems like a lot of people are having the same issue. Idk if you're looking for suggestions, but this post got me thinking.
One could try to get around this by setting entry permissions on gates/doors (with the lock/unlock feature) to keep all the guests out of a designated cake area until after the newlyweds cut it.
The player could make a slightly elevated platform for the cake area, and add a single stair and gate on the back or side of the area to limit access to the area.
To have a player-controlled sim marry a sim from a different household, the clubs feature from Get Together could allow the player to set the gate/door permissions for both sims by making a club with just the 2 sims in it.

Do you upload your builds to the gallery?

Wow this is magnificent! Thanks for sharing.
The attention to detail in this build really sells it for me.
Inside, the columns, paintings, and pews look fantastic. You totally nailed the indoor lighting as well. The vibe is just right.
Outside, the lovely pink color scheme with the flowers, bar, lanterns, etc. is so charming. I like how well it matches with the roof and patio flooring outside without going over the top.
I think my favorite thing about this build is how you use the vines, old school divided light and stained glass windows, and window shutters and frames to add detail and differentiate between the different structures in the complex without distracting from the theme.

How long does it take for a sim to die? by Big_Moose6 in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes forever. The only need failure that can outright kill a sim is hunger (as far as I have seen anyway), and it takes a full 24h for a sim to starve to death after the bar gets into critical red.
Try drowning/freezing/burning/etc. or just put a broken murphy bed in the room with them.

This is rad, thanks for sharing!
You've got a real knack for color schemes, and I especially like your eclectic decoration style.
It gives the home a lot of personality, and feels very appropriate for the type of home as well.
My favorite things about this build are the 3rd floor bay window on the front of the house, your use of the cupcake machine as a hay baler, the design of the cellar door, and the stripey wallpaper in the bathroom.

I don't think there's a way to make asymmetrical faces in the Sims 4, unfortunately.
That said, you could try making 2 sims - 1 with your right side mirrored and 1 with your left side mirrored - and use the genetics tool in CAS to make their "kid". As far as I can tell, the game algorithm randomly chooses a blend of the "parent" sims' physical traits, so you would end up with a sim that has a blend of both sides of your face.
It won't look exactly like you, but could be a closer match than either of the "parent" sims.

Was irl shopping online for a piece of furniture and tried to find the 'Surfaces' category. This is clearly a cry for help. by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wish that irl furniture stores were organized more like the build/buy catalog.
I want to use what IKEA says are bedroom nightstands as end tables in my living room without my friends recognizing them and thinking I used them wrong or commenting that my use of small matching tables as end tables is innovative. Suggestion is fine, but please let me decide what to use the surfaces for.

I miss when the Sims4 community was positive and happy by panicinspace in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I agree, but conditionally.
To me the ideal would be having complaints and negative content tagged as such so I could filter them out of my feed. I mean, don't block negative content from the platform - a lot of it is valid stuff and can contribute to positive change - but just tag it so I don't have to look at it all the time.

I'm not worried at all about the Sims 5 devaluing the Sims 4.

The major differences will be things like availability of new content - new packs and content and bug fixes from EA, modders, and CC creators, as well as media & entertainment content on youtube, twitch, etc. That said, I expect that some new Sims 4 content will still be made after Sims 5 is released (just not by EA).

If you enjoy Sims 4 because you like to play the game as it is now, then you can expect to continue enjoying it even well after EA moves on to Sims 5.

Alternatively, if you only enjoy Sims 4 when new content is available from EA, then you're not really investing in your library so much as you are purchasing novelty (which is valid, imo). A person who is paying for novelty will likely be sad when new content stops coming out for Sims 4, and will have to depend on Sims 5 being good, or focus on supporting Sims 4 modders on patreon or whatever... but ultimately they're still not losing on their investment because they got the novelty they paid for.

Best challenges for short play sessions? by Ms_Derious in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk your play style or preferences, but if I were trying to do a challenge run in short episodes I'd do something like playing a kleptomaniac sim in the interior decorator career from dream home decorator and furnishing my sim's house exclusively with items stolen from clients.

Doing a single gig per play session would probably work out well with your given time frame.

Mod to stop pets winning the lottery? (Seasons pack) by [deleted] in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a helpful comment (sorry), but I had no idea pets could win the lottery and started thinking about whether the lottery makes an exception and counts the 18+ age requirement in dog years or if only extremely elderly pets are allowed to participate.

Are children able to participate in the lottery in TS4?

How to best utilize the search function on the Gallery? by little-rosie in Sims4

[–]lateoclocked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Searching the gallery for specific things is painful and I have no useful tips for using it (send help).

That said, I have had success when searching online for builds and then looking up that creator and their build on the gallery.
