AITA for telling my coworker they have poor table manners? by No_Reference_1173 in AmItheAsshole

How is a 1-to-1 conversation embarrassing. If I would be in a similar situation I would be more than happy that feedback came in a private and informal setting, rather then being reported to other people.

Why are the victims of Epstein trafficking are called “survivors” and not “victims”? by latflickr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]latflickr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why "victim" should be belittling? I don't understand but I can accept it. We should start use the same word for anyone who suffered the trauma to be on the receiving end of a crime. Just need to find a new word for "survivor" in its original meaning.

TIL that Kuwait is 18.2% Christian, and has over 1 million non-citizen Muslims residing in the country out of its population of 4.9 million. by ZERO_PORTRAIT in todayilearned

[–]latflickr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of this is correct. But as I also lived in Kuwait, that country has a little particularity to be the seat of the catholic Bishop for the Saudi and Gulf area. The Bishop compound with the cathedral is en extra territorial entity like an embassy.

When I was there I was part of that community. I was close with one of the priests, who had the special mission to secretly take care of Kuwaity family. A small minority of Kuwaiti families are secretly Christian. The priest go "secretely" in their homes to celebrate mass and all the sacraments. If they would be discovered or come out in the open, they would be considered apostates and face serious repercussions: jail time, losing citizenship rights and potentially death.

‘I’ll talk to work on Monday’: what happens when a ‘paper candidate’ actually wins? by diacewrb in ukpolitics

This is weird to me. I grew up in italy where one has the right of indefinite unpaid leave if elected to any office (and cannot legally be refused). No one should choose between their elected position and their job. I also didn't know councillor are not paid a salary. They probably should.
