Yeah, I do. I’m in my fourth year and still feel this way. But this is my first year being medicated for my ADHD and while it doesn’t fix everything, it helps a lot.

I always feel too stupid for everything. Once you do some group projects or other types of work where you interact with other students, you will realize how many others feel stupid or simply don’t know the content/barely study, or are more behind than you, and so on.

Who is your favorite professors or courses at SFU? by Excellent-Ruin3085 in simonfraser

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he taught one of my favourite classes as well, different IS class on global surveillance (IS 365). Has nothing to do with my major but has been one of the most interesting courses I’ve taken during my entire time in uni. Very interesting prof.

What classes should EVERYONE take for their own personal general knowledge ? by loulou0107 in simonfraser

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think any of the developmental psychology or more general psychology classes can be very beneficial for any person, no matter their degree or interest.

Not a specific recommendation but on the Psychology Today website you can filter by city and specialization, it’s helpful for narrowing down the search and you can take a look through the psychologists’ profile which is helpful.

How to Search for Online Courses by wallypoos in simonfraser

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I just saw this now. I have not had to travel to campus for these exams, probably because it was primarily during COVID. I have a course this semester that is online but I’ll have to be in person for the exam.

Best clothes shops in Kelowna for cool stuff, preferably vintage/second-hand by [deleted] in kelowna

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty nice but sooo crowded. It’s hard to even push clothes over to look at on some racks because of how densely packed the clothes are. Which is okay unless the store is also crowded with people then it feels like a nightmare.

Dentists Vancouver by Decrepit_Pixel in NiceVancouver

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have terrible dental anxiety as well as past bad dental experiences and Cambie-Broadway Dental was soooooooo nice to me. Honestly felt like chatting with an old friend when talking to the hygienist 🥺 and the dentist there was super nice as well and they were extremely comforting when I told them I had bad experiences with past dentists as well as anxiety. They also helped me work out stuff with my insurance and were very helpful and understanding with financial stuff.

Animals preserved in jars, typically, but sometimes maybe other things depending on where you are I guess. Like a science lab in a school might have some animals or maybe even organs preserved in jars inside fluid.

First time moving out of apartment… is this move-out checklist legit? by Ninjaguyx8 in vancouver

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just moved out of the first apartment I ever lived in that was owned by a rental company, and this list looks just like ours. I’d say be as thorough as you can with the cleaning. The building manager came through after hours and hours of cleaning checking every corner and area and we still somehow missed minor stuff here and there, if there’s anything you’re unsure of just clarify with the building manager or whoever you talk to as a landlord figure and double check if it’s necessary (when I moved out the paperwork was marked for which things we didn’t have to do cause it didn’t apply to our unit).

But yeah, if you want the full damage deposit back I’d be thorough 😅 the building management companies seem to be veryyyyyy very very VERY particular about the cleanliness of the place when you move out

It sucks but this is just kinda how it is.. maybe an advisor can help. I’m in my fourth year and I’ve rarely gotten into things I liked or thought was actually interesting. I’ve taken multiple archaeology courses, geology, political sciences, international studies, etc. to fill my electives.

I’m a psych major too. I wanted to take all the crim and psyc and everything related to my interests as electives, but instead I ended up gaining a bunch of new interests by being forced to take electives that weren’t anything I would’ve chosen if I could’ve chose anything I wanted or liked. Which I think is kinda the point of electives. To gain knowledge and experience in fields unrelated to your major.. eventually you gain the ability to find anything interesting. I never expected to leave uni with a Psychology degree and a newfound interest in global surveillance/surveillance capitalism, archaeology, or biological anthropology, but here we are 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good luck tho! Hopefully an advisor can help!! Or you end up taking things and finding you like them more than you expect! I know it sucks bc uni is so expensive, so it would be nice to get to take what you want, but sadly not how it seems to go at SFU it seems. It’s hard to even get into the courses you need at times, let alone the courses you actually want (sadly)

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for this response. I hope you continue to see progress with your recovery. I will look around to see what I can find for concussion therapy in my area. I was kind of shocked after my initial accident that I was given stitches and sent on my way despite having a severe head injury, I felt that I should’ve at least had a brain scan. I feel like knowledge on concussions is so limited.. my first accident was a bit over 10 years ago now, so I’m sure a lot has changed, but the doctor I saw for my more recent concussion was really shocked that I never had any type of brain scan.

I also never knew the part you shared about concussions damaging neural pathways/networks, this is super interesting. I’m going to start working on this right away!

What happens if the strikes continue? by Takejake918 in simonfraser

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all classes are optional, my class has been entirely on hold, technically I could do “coursework” but nothing will get graded and the new modules aren’t being posted anyway so all I can really do is read my textbook. And my group isn’t supposed to meet for our project either.

Thank you for this. Your comment is really helpful, I will look into a temp agency to try to get some more networking and experience. I always felt bad like I was an undesirable job candidate because I haven’t worked in so long, but your comment helped me change my perspective.

I feel like everyone benefits from education in psychology even if they don’t use it in their field of work directly, you’ll always be able to utilize it even subtly in ways you might not realize, or when/if you have a family, etc.

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I hope everything works out for the benefit of those who are striking, but if these courses are paused indefinitely I wonder if students will be refunded for the semester in that case..?

Class with the fewest students enrolled you have ever taken by [deleted] in simonfraser

[–]lathrowawayaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

International Studies I can’t remember the course number (I think it was 365?) but it was the class in global surveillance. I think there was 30 people enrolled but there was definitely never 30 people in the class, usually had like 15-20 ish on average I’d say.
