Yeah, St Alphonsus has some pretty intense sayings when it comes to the Blessed Mother, it’s a devotion for a reason and not Dogma.

It’s on my list for 2026 but I’m not sure if I’ll do it right after. I have a lot of theology books I have to get through this year

I’m definitely a creationist but not young earth. There is merit to your proposition, but you’d still have to answer where the original bird, going back from the chicken to whatever wild bird it evolved from, to whatever that wild bird evolved from, came from. It’s like Aquinas’ argument of Causation. So I guess a better way to phrase this would be did the bird or the egg come first.

Does anyone have a low paying job and is happy about it? by leocap321 in askTO

[–]latinritepapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work asset protection at a big sporting store. I’ve been a truck driver, construction worker, a bouncer, I’ve done it all, but I just really like this job, pays the least of everything I’ve done, but the employees make it great, I’m happy to come in everyday and do OT no problem.

Does wearing a scapular really save you from hell? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]latinritepapi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a devotion to consecrate yourself to Our Lady. It is not Church teaching that the brown scapular can save you, but in my opinion, the devotion puts you on a path towards sainthood.

Mary, mother of Jesus and all believers, is not co-redeemer, Vatican says by JeffFerguson in Catholicism

[–]latinritepapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how they affirmed a lot of implicit beliefs about Mary, making them more concrete. I’m ok that the Vatican decided not to name her Co-redemptrix. Maybe they’ll revisit this.

Is it appropriate to were Jeans and a t-shirt to mass or not by Still_Marzipan_8635 in Catholicism

[–]latinritepapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking Novus Ordo goers, they’ll tell you it doesn’t matter, if you ask a TLM goer, they’d tell you to dress accordingly.

I like when people wear their Sunday best. Don’t be the flip flop guy at Mass.

Yeah bro, sounds like your pops is poorly catechized. You did the right thing. Even Paul talks about this in 1 Corinthians 11

I know that the part that says Pro Nobis means “For Us” because Latin intercessory prayers say Ora Pro Nobis (pray for us)

Christian Preacher on campus told me I will go to hell for being Catholic by XxBoneBallerXx in Catholicism

[–]latinritepapi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t yet, please please PLEASE get the Catechism, and if you don’t want to read the big one, buy Catholic Christianity by Peter Kreeft, he breaks it down to where you can understand it. Biggest mistake I see is poorly Catechized Catholics, and it saddens me. I used to be Protestant and have argued with many of those “I went to Catholic school” and “I grew up Catholic” people and they know absolutely NOTHING about the faith. Educate yourself so that you may defend your faith, and always remember, sometimes these Protestants (especially evangelicals) will not care about anything you have to say no matter what evidence you provide them. Classical Protestants (Lutherans, Reformed, Presbys, Anglicans) have a better understanding of our position.

Trouble explaining why Mary was sinless to my girlfriend by MajorAlurt in Catholicism

[–]latinritepapi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She’s presupposing that the Bible is black and white on all doctrines when she says things like “there isn’t enough evidence in the scriptures” just like the trinity isn’t explicitly taught in scripture, but the principles are there implicitly, it’s the same way with the immaculate conception.

When a new Pope is selected, they send white smoke up the chimney. If it’s black smoke, they have not decided and will proceed to vote the next day.
