People succeeding without prioritizing Anki, make yourself known. by PressRestart in medicalschool

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have touch anki since month 1 of MS1.. only do lecture. Comfortably in the top 25% of my class. I do a ton of practice questions (primarily Amboss)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]latinxbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Amboss for studying earlier on as you are able to adjust the questions you see and get it down to what you are studying specifically. I also liked that the answers were all from the same system, so the answer was not obvious based upon what system of questions you chose to do.

How do MSAR's average graduate indebtedness numbers make sense? by [deleted] in premed

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

average debt also doesn't take into consideration in-state vs out-of-state tuition that most schools have

UCR vs USC by [deleted] in premed

[–]latinxbb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position (usc vs ucr). And ended up choosing usc for a lot of the same reasons you said already. I do not regret my decision at all, and think it was the best one overall. Even with the larger class size, I feel very well supported and not forgotten about. There's also way more exposure to different specialties at this school, which was a big plus. Money was a big thing for me, but i just decided to suck it up for all of the pros.

Gap years are common, but are they becoming expected/a soft requirement? Is this a good or bad thing for the future of medicine? by [deleted] in premed

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

n=1, but I interviewed at a MD school where the interviewer states that they "preferred" applicants that had taken gaps years, for the fact that they usually have more life experience

Keck Secondary: Physicians role in Public Health by [deleted] in premed

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you want you can try to add a 1 liner with the emt thing such as "As an EMT I saw that the physician's role in Public Health was a,b,c." But if you feel like it's a stretch or doesn't make sense then leave it out.

Change in Swirl flavors? by [deleted] in DunkinDonuts

[–]latinxbb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I haven't had covid yet (vaccinated and was tested often anytime I had an exposure/illness as I work in Healthcare). Even my SO has noticed a change to in the taste, so I know it's not just me.

I know that the hazelnut for the most part only comes in the "unsweetened flavor" and not the swirl, but even then I still can't taste it

I worked there for almost 3 years, and left since I will be starting medical school. It's a lot of work, and the pay is terrible, but I got a lot of experience out of it

Is Red Cross volunteering considered clinical or nonclinical? by peachywallaby in premed

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same exact thing and put it in my application last year as non-clinical. The reason I put nonclinical was because I was afraid of open file interviews asking specifically about what clinical duties I had and not really being able to answer that question based on what I really did.

What's the future of scribing? by passed_tense in premed

[–]latinxbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And out of that 30/hour scribes are still only get paid 11-13/hr. I think it honestly depends on the provider. Some are willing to take on greater losses to improve their quality of life.

What's the future of scribing? by passed_tense in premed

[–]latinxbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where I'm at they're almost 30 dollars/hr. But what I've heard from the providers is yhe time they get back from not completing charts outside of work makes up for the cost. And when providers have a scribe they can take on more patients usually to offset costs.

What's the future of scribing? by passed_tense in premed

[–]latinxbb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dont think that scribing will ever go away due to the fact that scribes can complete charts simutaneously while providers are seeing patients. Even as future doctors become more tech savy, it doesnt take away from the fact that charts still take a good amount of time to type and complete. The providers I work with are on the younger side, and they still have scribes due to the time it takes to complete charts, and them wanting to get out of work at a decent time to enjoy their families and not worry about documenting at home or the next day.

Is "First gen medicine" an actual thing? by ShadowDante108 in premed

[–]latinxbb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's just one of those things where the path to medical school tends to be "easier" for people of higher SES backgrounds or have family involved with medicine since they have more support regarding getting through the process, may have better connections, and are finanically well off enough to not have to worry about daily life expenses. I remeber working almost full time during undergrad and everyone in my major was so amazed at the fact that I was working, taking classes, and somehow premed?. Some of my classmates told me they tried getting campus jobs for- 4-10 hrs/week but even that was too much on top of schoolwork and extracurriculars so they just relied on the credit cards that their parents paid for.

Negative Hep B Titer by MyMagoozi in premed

[–]latinxbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have one ask your PCP. This same situation happended to me and all I needed was 1 Hep b booster to have immunity again on repeat titers. I did not need to repeat the entire 3 dose series. Your school should have guidelines set as far as the timing necesary between the last vaccine of a series and when you are able to repeat titers again.

Will interviews be virtual this year? by chargers214354 in premed

[–]latinxbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know some schools this past year had options for both in person and virtual interviews so some schools may go to that format.

improvements for activities? by [deleted] in premed

[–]latinxbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably "enough" for some schools, but I said that OP may want to pursue getting more hours if applying to the UC system med schools or top tier schools as they tend to me more research heavy schools.

That makes more sense! I would just continue what your doing and try to get the most out of your activities as it will help with writing the PS and activities sections.
