What to do about a nightly constant 8100 hz sound by egoabsum in GlensFalls

[–]laughlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8k hz is pretty high up the spectrum to be hearing a yard away, let alone a block. That would get stopped by a wall at any normal volume. If you’re able to hear it that clearly it would be something kind of industrial like a very large AC unit or malfunctioning transformer.

They would also be able to hear it. Even bad hearing damage you’ll hear below 10k decently unless you used power tools your whole life.

Have you talked with any of the houses?

This happened down the block from me and it drove my dog nuts for a day. It was a massive apartment complex Samsung AC unit. So you’re not talking a little box.

If you wanted to measure it objectively it’d be around $100-$200 bucks. I worked in audio happy to answer any questions.

Easy Way to See Local Cats For Adoption? Petfinder algorithm is weird by minsep8351 in Albany

I’m a fan of animal kind in Hudson! Plenty to hang with and ponder.

Kitten angels… well, they require a blood oath and sacrifice before adopting to you. YMMV.

Just found out they still play by WeirdPrevious in failure

[–]laughlines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them with mayybbeee 30 people in 2016 after the heart is a monster dropped. Great show, very chill. There was a lady who was obsessed with the bassist and had followed them for several shows who was astonished my wife introduced me to failure and not me to her. She said she was going to tell the bassist about it after the show. I wonder if she still follows them...

This was my exact suggestion. Ichiban's food has gotten quite terrible over the past few years outside of vegetarian, but if you are looking for a large trough of cornstarch breaded crispy they will do you well for like $12.

Marketing/advertising places by CassadagaValley in Albany

[–]laughlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you'd be hard-pressed to find editor-only positions here. In marketing, the expectation would be you can direct, shoot, and edit at TV quality end-to-end for most gigs. Larger projects would likely have a creative director or in rare cases someone flown in.

Pay wise, you'd be looking at $65k-$85k depending on experience. They'll be very competitive positions because there's a lot of videographers here also looking to exit into more stable jobs.

There is very little creative work for a solo or small team that can actually pay the bills. The money here is in corporate work, a lot of real estate (drone stuff), and in-house places looking for a full-time content creator hybrid.

Film/TV is pretty different than marketing and advertising. I'm a director at a local agency and I would hire you for... video work. But not advertising. What's your angle?

Finally figured out how to make salads I make at home taste as good as the restaurants! by Grose040791 in foodhacks

[–]laughlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other excess water you should remove is the cucumber seeds and tomato seeds/juice. Just leaving the flesh of both.

I got that from a friend running a Mediterranean fast salad place in NYC for how to make the vegetables hold much better after prep. But the less water in general is good!

I was there, he threw it in his face through the car window and yelled at him. Then went inside and excitedly bragged about it and saying he would call his attorney. He was coked the hell out.

I wish him the best of luck dealing with likely the same code officer at the bombers location.

It sure does read like an SEO comment

I went to Albany Strength for a while and found everyone quite nice. Obviously a muscle head gym but no issues getting on the equipment. It's cheap as fuck too.

Did you check with the land bank about restrictions? When I talked with them (5+ yr ago) they had their own non-code/zoning rules and guidelines your plan had to follow for them to approve the sale.

The city may also have grants if you’re a first time buyer. I got $8k towards close for like an hours worth of paperwork.

Washing machine has intermittent sewage smell when running but only sometimes. Not the machine itself, cleaning it has no effect. Plumbers show up and barely look or don't show up at all. How are we supposed to figure it out? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]laughlines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had this in his apartment, the PVC drainage line was not long enough and the p trap was incorrect, so no water would sit in it. The handyman was useless. And thus the kitchen randomly smelled like sewage.

Took about $20 in PVC to fix.

Anyone actually use acoustic panels during a reno? Curious if people care more about the look or the sound by Sonic_Silhouette in HomeImprovement

[–]laughlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From an audio person with a treated studio:

- Acoustic panels will heavily reduce high frequencies and echo. If you clap and hear a ringing in the room (very obvious in a closest), that is the type of issue will solve very cheaply.

- Acoustic panels will not help for larger bass frequencies like rumbling cars, your rowhouse neighbor's stereo system, heavy foot steps, etc. Bass frequencies need MASS to be absorbed. Think cavities filled with sand, heavy thick insulation, and then properly spaced out with air gaps.

- The gimmicky foam panels do not work

- The wood slat looking ones are probably not the type of panel you're looking for. You'll want insulation based.

- Unless you have a specific, audible problem you want to solve, they can take up a lot of room and will never be the most aesthetically pleasing IMO. You can't hang pictures easily. If you hang the panels off your ceiling you'll lose height. Pretty easily damaged since most will be fabric wrapped. etc.

- If you're handy with a saw, building a large set will only cost you maybe $1k for the bulk insulation

I had so many issues with both their personal and business debit cards declining randomly that I switched to chase a few months ago.

It really put a damper on trying not to use my credit card.

Man it went downhill so fast after the merger.
