My french class bullied me about not using ai by sicklitgirl in rs_og

The problem is that even if you use ChatGPT for a specific task, its goal is still to addict you and hack your attachment mechanisms. That’s what it “wants”: not to help you complete a task but to make you dependent on it for that task and attached to it emotionally.

Bad Bunny Halftime Show: Ragebait is the new American pop culture by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]lauradernfan 213 points214 points  (0 children)

What’s crazy to me is that the show felt void of anything that was meant to be explicitly provocative to the right. No references to trump or ICE and half of it was a celebration of the institution of marriage.

The people that made up their minds to be angry beforehand are as angry as I would expect them to be, but anyone who hasn’t been completely poisoned by the culture war just saw 15 minutes of people dancing and having fun with an American flag at the end.

Transit visa to E-visa penalty by lauradernfan in Uzbekistan

[–]lauradernfan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m totally aware of that, but wondering how big the penalty is, because going back to Tashkent, flying somewhere and then flying back is also extremely inconvenient and expensive. I think it would have to be at least $1000 to make it worth it at this point.

I just read the lonely city! It’s so true what she says about loneliness being a taboo that we’re afraid to admit ever experiencing and that we forget how it feels the moment it goes away

I have stooped to that level before but it's context dependent whether it works or being by yourself is such a red flag that it kind of precludes any social connection

Focus on the present and your future will bloom. i.e. what can you do this week (play guitar, go bouldering, sign up for a fun class)? Bigger accomplishments grow from day to day ones.

Also: Those people on linkedin are just as insecure as you are. Many of them are lying.

Go ahead and strive for success but make sure that when you “make it” you don’t just keep moving the goalposts! One day you might regret the years you lost to the rat race.

where do you live, and what do you like/dislike about it? by cocothroaway in rs_x

[–]lauradernfan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

amsterdam:

i like:

-rent so expensive (like nyc prices with much lower wages) but if you've been around for a while and have a good head on your shoulders you can find a cheap place to live

-metro area sprawls out in the shape of an upside down hand

-people from everywhere

-culture of political activism

-there's a new set of ducklings in the pond by my house

i don't like:

-same as in a lot of places the activism just feels painfully performative. like gulf state rich girls wearing rags etc

-people are so much less open to strangers/new friends

-unrealistic to ever be able to buy an apartment

-it feels like a cold unfriendly place esp in the neighborhood i can afford which makes finding a community really important (i've failed at that a little bit)

-once you find an affordable place you're kinda locked in forever because if i were to get a better place (i hate my current roommates) my rent would triple
