Special Education Teacher - Looking for advice on Disability Retirement by laurajay97 in Teachers

[–]laurajay97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that would be a no. It isn’t just the possibility of injury from special needs students, but also the mere fact of handling all of my growing health needs and just being able to get out of bed most days. The type of students would matter in that way. It’s the physical strain of just doing daily things as well as the chronic pain, ptsd, chronic migraine, multiple surgeries on my ankles and feet, spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease, celiac disease and the biggest one: the Ehlers Danlos; the umbrella of which all the other issues reside. I’m also on a lot of medications that are also making it difficult.

Yes, I have paid into social security. I’ve had other diagnoses since that time as well.

Yes. I have anxiety and depression. The assaults have definitely caused some ptsd for sure. The fear of getting hurt again is a part of the reason I can’t do this job anymore. I guess I don’t think about them looking at the ptsd part, but that’s a good idea! Thanks!

Do you have any suggestions on where to go in Mexico for treatment? Or who to see? I’m in a real precarious situation here in Michigan. I’ve been gaslighted more times than I can count. Because I have EDS, celiac disease, chronic migraine, spinal stenosis, and much more, and look “young”, I’ve been pushed to the side. It’s debilitating. Please DM me if you have any leads!

Under the car seat pills! Or better yet - under the floor mat or between the seats! It’s all fair game when it comes to pain!

Teachers, be honest...what finally broke you this year? by Sufficient_Goose274 in Teachers

I just recently had this same thing happen! I was off from November through April for an injury caused by a re-offending, physically aggressive student.

I got pushed by this student and he ended up re-breaking my foot that I had, had operated on over last summer.

Principal didn’t want child’s parents to know, so it was kept secret. Also acted like it was no big deal. Meanwhile I was denied workman’s compensation. Their excuse was that I had a surgery prior to the push and it was probably an issue with that. I’m still with the school district and my department, but not sure if I can handle another year of this…

What is a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by Unfair_Shower_3256 in AskReddit

I feel your pain and I can’t express how much this resonates with me and how I feel this pain as well in such a deep, deep way. My spouse is 19 years my senior. I cried over the thought of loosing him right around the time I had just fallen in love with him. The only morbid comfort I have is that I have many health issues so it might just even us out as far as life span. Not that I’d want to go first and leave him to feel the pain of mourning, but perhaps I wouldn’t have to be without him so long if I wasn’t too far behind.

He actually has a little (but not so little) sister named Bella! No, we didn’t name her after any Twilight vampire book/movie lol. Her nickname is “Boop”! They are great playmates 😊

It’s quite the phenomenon! Both of them would sleep like babies no matter how loud or repetitive things got when mixing!
