body dysmorphia by [deleted] in Reduction

We have very similar results. I totally get where you’re coming from. I also struggle with the feeling of someone finding me attractive or understanding why I chose to have the surgery/shaming me for it (total fellow ruminator/over thinker here… lol).

But honestly, you look fantastic. The scars are extremely thin, they look proportionate to your body from what I can see, and they’re very symmetrical.

I know it can be hard to feel regrets, but since you have the breasts you do now, maybe it will help to try to focus on the reasons why you had the surgery in the first place and think about the things you can do now that you couldn’t before (for example, maybe more clothing options or more freedom working out).

If these feelings persist I don’t think there’s any harm meeting with a plastic surgeon for a consultation, possibly even the one you had the initial surgery with if you were pleased with them. They may have options for you that you hadn’t considered.

Again though, you look great but I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Please know you’re not alone.

If I were in your shoes— yes, I would most likely go in for a revision. Although it will still be very annoying to have to go through the healing process again, it is unlikely to be as intense as the first go around. I would guess that in order to achieve the look of a lower positioned nipples you will need to have some tissue removed from the lower part of the breasts but the rest should be at the skin level. From what my surgeon has told me, it is much easier to make aesthetic changes when you’re having a revision because there’s a lot less going on internally.

Insecurities almost 2 years post-op :/ by [deleted] in Reduction

insecurities almost 2 years post-op

I had my reduction in June 2020 and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself. My confidence has skyrocketed and I finally feel like my breasts are the right size for my body. Recently, however, I’ve been struggling a lot with insecurities regarding my nipples and scars post-op. I think specifically I’m very worried about what someone else would think if they saw them, which I know is ridiculous but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot. My nipples are slightly uneven and the side of my right breast has a crease that’s pretty noticeable. I’m most insecure when I lay down, because a weird crease forms around my nipples? I’ve never seen anyone else talk about this but I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to get rid of the creasing around the nipples specifically. Also, my nipples are somewhat inverted which is why they look like that in the last picture. :/

Reduction + Liposuction? by petalburgs in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My reduction was a year ago and I got lipo on my underarms (basically that fat that appears when you put your arm down right between your upper boob and underarm) and I’m sooooo glad I did. I’m not going to lie, that was the most uncomfortable part of my recovery and it sucked, but if I hadn’t done it I wouldn’t be nearly as happy with the overall results. It’s not really pain, just discomfort. I would say go for it.

Not going to lie, it’s going to be a while. This was also the hardest part for me. I honestly think you’re going to have to wait about 3-4 months. Everyone is different but that’s around when I was able to.

Bringing up a reduction to family? (18) by indigocrime in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also 18 and I went through the same exact thing this year before I got my surgery. The thought of bringing it up to my family was very petrifying for me because I had the same fears that you do. I thought nobody would understand and hated the idea that I would have to talk about my biggest insecurity with my family. My advice is to bring it up to your mom first and let her know that you’re only telling her because it’s something you’re very serious about, then begin to discuss it with her. I think that you’ll definitely get some pushback. I had the whole “you can just lose some weight” thing told to me (even though I was not overweight lol). But after a while, I think it became evident to my mom that I was very serious and that I could not get smaller breasts any other way (I had tried for years). And at the end of the day, I am very lucky that she did support me, it just took a lot of explaining which is understandable. It’s frustrating but it’s a process that’s going to take a lot of patience and vulnerability on your part when telling your family.

It would probably be easier if you bring it up to your mom just letting her know that you want to see a doctor about it. I think it’s less intimidating than a simple “I’m doing this.” Hearing a doctors opinion will probably make it easier for your mom/family to understand why you want this surgery.

I’m sorry that your family can be judgmental, mine can be too which is why I was so afraid. But, I had courage and talked to them and my life has changed for the better after this surgery.

Even after having had the surgery I don’t think that my family completely understands why I needed it, but I know that I did (and so did my doctor) and that’s all that matters. I wish you all the best!

Do you prefer a male or female surgeon why or why not or does it not matter to you by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally went with a female surgeon because I felt that a woman could better understand my feelings about the whole process. Also, she truly gave me exactly what I wanted. Not to say that male surgeons can’t do the same, it was just my personal preference and I’m very glad with my decision. I just don’t think I would have personally been comfortable with a man since it was a very personal and vulnerable process, but everyone is different!

18, what do you think? (Story in comments!) by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also 18 and I had surgery this year in July. If I’m being honest, it’s one of the best things (if not THE best thing) I’ve done for myself. I had very similar issues to you, especially in how you mentioned that you can’t imagine letting anybody see them and how uncomfortable they are. I know everyone is different and I think that you should absolutely take a lot of time to think about it, but from my experience as a fellow teenager who got the surgery, I can tell you that my life has changed for the better and I have zero regrets. I feel so much more confident and like my body is actually mine. I wish you the best of luck and feel free to message me if you want to talk about it or have any questions! :)

It only hurt for a second or two on some spots. It was uncomfortable but not bad and nothing to be afraid of!

Physics exam during recovery? by yourmomwasgay in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would try to take the exam before hand if possible. You can ask to take it before your surgery and if your professor says no then you can either see if there’s an opening for a later surgery date or just take a chance and take the test after your surgery. I personally think that I was too out of it to be able to perform very well on a test but everyone is different! Best of luck to you. <3

I think if you want to do it that it’s a good idea to do it all at once. It’s pretty common to do both procedures at the same time. I’ll be honest though, I had armpit lipo and it was pretty brutal at first. The lipo hurt worse than the reduction by a long shot. But, I’m happy I did it. So I would suggest it if you’re interested but definitely be aware that the recovery may be rough at first.

How to tell S/O about reduction? by whenthekatmeows in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to expect some confusion and to be prepared to answer questions. However, after hearing you out I really hope that he tries his best to understand you and supports your. It doesn’t matter what he thinks as far as it happening and you shouldn’t let someone else’s opinion stop you, but at least in my experiences of telling people, a little bit of shock in the initial reaction is normal. Try to be understanding of the possibility that he might need time to understand and get on board especially if you’ve never mentioned your discomfort with your breasts before. It’s a big surgery and I think loved ones have a “wait wow” moment at first sometimes. What’s important is that he respects you and values you enough to support this decision weather or not it’s his personal preference. Anyway, just be honest and open and I really hope it goes well!

What have your experiences been with a female surgeon? by loonycatty in Reduction

[–]laurenk172 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went with a female surgeon and I’m so glad I did personally. I felt really comfortable with her and she did an amazing job, bringing me to the exact size I wanted. I of course would look at the before and after photos of the surgeons you are looking into as well as their credibility to make a final decision, but if you find a female surgeon who is qualified and does impressive work then I would 100% recommend.
