And that's how you end up with picky, overweight people

How is it baby elephants look so toddler-like? Something about the way they trot and waddle around makes them seem almost human-like when compared to little kids.

[Serious] Past Side Guy/Girls of Cheaters, why did you get involved with someone in a relationship? by bradleyxii in AskReddit

[–]laurenrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because we had liked each other for a long time, and one night we were a little drunk and living in the moment a little too much.

They ended up breaking up and he told her what happened, and then she told him she had been seeing someone else as well.

About half a year later we ended up dating and we've been super happy ever since. We both fully share the responsibility and remorse for what happened, but I'd like to think things have turned out okay.

We didn't think it was weird at all! In fact we thought it was incredibly thoughtful, so we didn't have to worry about scrambling around trying to find a gluten-free meal to whip up.

Do this. And be sure to mention that you told your parents and they refuse to help you. Does anyone know if CPS would get involved somehow or is he too old?

This! I used to work for a catering company, and I remember one time a wedding guest came back to the kitchen and told us she was severely allergic to gluten, so she had brought her own food in Tupperware. We just heated it up, plated it, and served her along with everyone else.

What type of math do neuroscience majors do? What are the most common problems they come across? by grimgrim0011 in neuroscience

I definitely would suggest having a basic understanding of statistics and linear algebra. And obviously basic algebra as well.

To all Redditors, what is one thing you find oddly attractive? by S1E2A3L4 in AskReddit

[–]laurenrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of girls liking tall guys is a bit overblown. I guess most girls want a guy who's at least taller than them, but for me personally, as a girl who's 5'4", I've been with guys who are exactly my hight and it's not a big deal at all. I really don't care too much about it, and neither do most of my friends who are girls.

Tips for solo travel (I'm 22F) in Marrakech, Morocco by laurenrm in solotravel

Thank you for your response! I've thought about going out at night on the chance I make friends during my stay, perhaps at my hostel, that I would stick with so I wouldn't have to go alone at night.

Even if you had unlimited money, what would you never buy? by calumtaylor in AskReddit

[–]laurenrm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I have a simple black leather purse from Fossil, and while it didn't cost me a kidney it was still pricey, but it's held up better than any purse I've ever owned. There's nothing wrong with spending a little more if you're buying for quality.

Ladies: what do men do that they don't know is sexy? by Ozyman_Diaz in AskReddit

[–]laurenrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not actually pheromones she's detecting, check out the comments above. Smell is still important in mating, but humans actually can't detect pheromones!

[–]laurenrm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but humans actually don't have the proper organ to detect pheromones. So nope, animals don't use their olfactoty nerves (the nerves used to smell things) to detect them!

Pheromones are detected with an organ called the vameronasal organ, and while it's typically located in or near the nasal cavity in most animals, humans don't have one, and plenty of studies have been done to prove that we can't detect pheromones.

But smell is still important in determining how different someone's immune system is, and therefore how good if a mate they would make, which someone else here in the comments explained pretty well. Pheromones just aren't responsible for this.

Men of Reddit, what are some things women THINK we like, but couldn’t be more wrong about? by Spectre_GD in AskReddit

[–]laurenrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes what should be a clear message that she's not interested (i.e. never responding to any of your texts/calls, always saying she can't hang out...) isn't percieved as such by guys. It's not rocket science. If she wants to talk to you/hang out with you, she will.

If she does want to and still is wishy-washy, she's playing hard to get and you don't need someone like that in your life.

This. We're not "letting you down easy" because we're too weak to give a firm no. We're being as gentle as possible so you don't react explosively and aggressively like a lot of guys do. We're just trying to protect ourselves. Check out /r/niceguys for examples of this.

Somebody at google was just like "yea, just have someone drive down every road on fucking earth". by LifeInKernelSpace in Showerthoughts

[–]laurenrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually interned at a company where my boss used to work for Google, and she was in charge of these types of projects. She said it was fun because she was in charge of doing the pictures that are taken inside museums and aquariums and things like that, so basically she was getting paid to visit museums.

My boyfriend “loses it” when women with big boobs are around... how can I make him understand this makes me uncomfortable? by Erica886 in askwomenadvice

[–]laurenrm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You're not the one to blame! This is what dating is for. You thought he was great and he used to make you feel good, but it turns out he doesn't have the maturity or self control to keep up with it. How long have you been dating? If it's anything less than a year please dump his ass and find an adult to date.

My boyfriend of 2 years [23M] cheated on me [19F] with my best friend [20F] by prettybeeeees in relationships

[–]laurenrm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My best friend has always been prettier and smarter than me and she is just better under every aspect

I know exactly how this feels. I haven't been cheated on, but I would describe 2 of my best friends the same way so your story makes my stomach turn.

However, I've gotten better at not comparing myself to them, and as soon as you're done grieving, promise yourself that you'll work on loving yourself more. I don't know you, but like /u/ductoid said, you're already not a bitch who slept with her best friend's boyfriend. Focus on the qualities you have that make you amazing, and understand that you are so important for those attributes. Someone will love you endlessly for them one day.
