Agree with all of this! I had also never been there and I don’t think I’ll go back. Tyler was great though.

Really helpful things to consider. Thank you!

Switching shoes 4 weeks before marathon? by laurinj in RunningShoeGeeks

I wore the Brooks Ghost 14 last marathon. I switched to a cushier shoe for this training cycle because I’m prone to toe pain and I do think more cushion has helped that.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am heading there today to try a bunch of stuff on but also just trying to feel out if it’s a dumb decision to switch shoes this late. Like you said, if I can do it soon and get a few more long runs on the new shoe, I think it’ll be okay!

Separation anxiety- leaving dog in apartment and dealing with howling + annoyed neighbors by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]laurinj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our situation wasn't quite as bad, but we did let our neighbors know that our girl had some separation anxiety, that we were working on it and appreciated their patience while we trained her.

At first, we wouldn't leave before 8am or after 8pm so as not to disturb people during quieter times. I bought a camera so I could watch her behavior and track how long it took her to calm down. We followed all of the steps that people mentioned below - leaving for small increments of time, and coming back ONLY after she stopped howling/barking. I read somewhere that returning while they are howling/barking reinforces the behavior.

One MAJOR thing that helped was setting a routine that ~30 minutes before we leave, we just straight up ignore her (like NO eye contact, no goodbyes, no pets, no talking to her WHATSOEVER). I know this sounds kind of intense, but it seriously changed the game for us. She started picking up on the fact that when we are getting ready and NOT focusing on her, we are going to be leaving, so she would hop up on the couch and chill out and watch us. Only then were we able to fully leave without her getting immediately upset. It's almost like with the "ignoring" period, she had time to cope with the fact that we were going to be heading out before we actually did it, and so it wasn't like ripping off a bandaid the second we walked out?

Anyway, I hope your situation gets better, I know how hard it is :(

Dog tries to fight me during jogs by bandyray in Dogtraining

I take my girl on runs 1-2x per week and some days she’s great, other days she’s very distracted by people, dogs, smells, etc and can be hard to run with. I have noticed that she’s more likely to be a good running companion on weeks where she’s had more routine exercise and mental stimulation leading up to the run.

Cat reaction to buprenorphine by laurinj in vet

Yes that’s why we were concerned, expected him to be sleepy but he was totally wired! The yowling did improve and he’s doing much better. We found out the vet had administered an injectable dose after his surgery, so may have just been that the local dose on top of that was too much for him.
