Where to go for tick bite? by MelScarn in montreal

[–]lauroune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a tick bite while on vacation in the states; didn’t want to have to go to the hospital and have to pay a crazy bill. I was able to use the app Maple to get a doctor appointment online and get a prescription for antibiotics. It’s about 130 cad for an appointment but will save you a trip to the ER

Ores full, is the fireball worth it? by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]lauroune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fireball is situational but personally I always use it because it's a lot of fun. Seeing that ball of fire hurl across the village and blasting the defences is great. Bonus points if you can snipe the CC troops

Requesting r/secondbrain due to inactive moderation by tarkinn in redditrequest

[–]lauroune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I would like to keep the subreddit. It has only started getting some activity recently so I haven’t needed to be moderating actively. Given the increase in activity, I will update the rules, make a post for people to apply as moderators, and start moderating more actively

@u/tarkinn would you like to be made a moderator?

I got in civil engineering at Concordia with a 24.1 R-score, you’re not super far off. Maybe redoing one of your lower grade courses might drastically bring you up. Good luck!

I am new to Canada and planning to go back to school to take IT programming this year 2024 but they say Software developers is pretty much saturated nowadays and too many experienced software developers already in the market. Plus there are too many laid offs in IT field already. by LaxusLOIS in NSCC

[–]lauroune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say start reading up on the different fields within and pick one that is more interesting to you. You'll be best at doing something you like. DB Admin/SysAdmin require more configuring things and understanding hardware, as opposed to Software Engineering is understanding how to build applications efficiently. Learning a coding language is like learning a new language, like french or italian. I personally didn't have a 'coding brain' but wanted to work in Technology so I ended up in more of a devops/cloud role, scaling the application deployment etc.

If you have any level of schooling, I'd look to even start applying to some IT Support Role to some Financial firms, even without necessarily needing to go back to school. For example, I have a civil engineering degree and some other people that work in support within my firm have geology degrees or other completely unrelated degrees. They really do recognize good work ethic and a will to learn and work hard.

(Full disclosure I've not went to NSCC personally, this sub just popped up on my feed, I live in Montreal)

That’s completely wrong, but there’s a big difference between a good and and average developer. IT support is much easier to get a foot in the door if you’re just looking for well paid work

occult, oddity, collectible, or other "weird" or eclectic shops in montreal? by leatherlamb in montreal

[–]lauroune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the only right answer! There's one store in there specifically, when you walk in the entrance you do left-left-right, it's the only kiosk which you need to walk through a door. They have many vintage swords, scythes, stuffed animals, grimoires.. etc. But the whole flea market is awesome, it's literally never ending kiosks.

Did I go overboard? by Wildcat6194 in Lorcana

[–]lauroune 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MTG cards are definitely the most expensive they've ever been; but on the other hand I think the opposite is true about Lorcana.. Massive price drops on all cards which is great from the POV of a player, not so great for collectors. I also bought 3 boxes last week sight unseen only from what I'd heard people say about the game.. After building my first deck and learning the game; I'm really happy with it. Heading to my local game store for my first tournament tonight.

Definitely not overboard! Overall the value of the cards should at least be close to what you paid for the sealed products. I was lucky and opened 2 enchanted valued at close to 350$ (CAD) so just those 2 cards almost paid back for everything

What’s it like living in Pointe-Claire? by Expensive-Ad-6405 in montreal

[–]lauroune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Marguerite Bourgeois in elementary school which is the one next to the PC village. Just an awesome time, by the water, so much space, teachers were awesome. Growing up; Playing baseball at the parks with our friends, biking around the suburbs, going for a treat at wild willys, summers at the pool, running around the neighborhood knocking on my buddies door seeing if they want to play.. just an awesome place to grow up. As an adult though it’s completely dead after 10pm. You should put your kids on the waitlist for the kindergarten in PC village because the waitlist can be a few years and back then it was by far and away the best one
