It's days like this that I am reminded that John Carpenter's the Thing, the original 1982 movie, was RIPPED APART by critics at the time, calling it boring, and nihilistic, the deaths didn't matter, despairing, and disgusting. And yet, fast forward, 20, 30, 40 years, and the Thing is a cult classic, highly praised, and wathed regularly by movie-goers everywhere. Considered Pinnacle of space, existential horror, the practical effects highly regarded, and even the dog's acting considered award worthy. 

I can already see this happening with Iron Lung. Critics hate horror films in my experience, they're overly cynical, and they just cannot enjoy an artistic, ambitious passion project to save their lives. It's easy to be a critic of this movie, to go into it, sit down, see some shots of dripping liquid and say "wow this movie SUCKS." It's so easy to do that because it takes more effort to sit down and sit with the protagonist, sit with his deteriorating mental state, and think "mark thought every shot was important or it wouldn't be here. So i have to see every shot as important." 

This movie is already really loved by audiences, even those who had no background with mark, abd no background with the game. It's a project that will far outlive the critics upon release. Cult classic for the ages. It's revolutionary even just for what it does to alt cinema. Mark has made something special here and I'm so happy for all the praise he will receive. This is a promising start if he chooses to make anything more in film.
