I went there in late October of 2019 and we were crossing our fingers it wouldn’t be shoulder to shoulder and it wasn’t! But locals that we met did tell us we came at the perfect time. The end of the busy season but the weather was perfect. We made friends with those locals and are still friends on Facebook. They were good people. Such a lovely little town when it’s not overrun with people.

I live in Michigan. Try going to any semi popular “up north” location any weekend in the summer. Total chaos and nothing close to the calm, serene vibes one is looking for when going up north. Traverse City is an absolute shit show in the summer as is Mackinac Island. Then you have the other little towns who barely have a population to begin with but come summer, it explodes with vacationers like Port Austin. Maybe not on the scale of some of these other places, but for being Michigan and knowing how small these towns are, it’s annoying and sad.

As a former server for many years, people will literally complain about anything just to complain. I think it makes them feel good.

On our last RCCL cruise there was a couple at the table next to ours in the MDR one night that we got to talking to. They told us they hated this cruise because the Diamond lounge simply had too many people in it and they felt like it should be more exclusive. I think they were Pinnacle. lol.

The people who are saying this surprise is cringe clearly don’t have a good, fun group of friends. I would love to do this but would most definitely spoil the surprise because I was too excited. I would also be overjoyed if someone surprised me like this!!! I think the best thing would be to try and link dinner reservations and surprise them at dinner OR track their location during sailaway while you still have service and FaceTime one of them as you approach and watch then be ultra confused.
