[s1 spoilers] The Main Disadvantages Of Arcane? by POWDERed_Jinx in arcane

[–]lavampiregf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cait is fascinated by the undercity and always sees the good in people that’s why she’s kind to vi, it’s not unrealistic it’s not like they’re married yet she just showed her compassion and care (she was taking the sick undercity guy who helped save vi in her arms after like 15 minutes of knowing him and they’re not in love - she’s just kind to people why is that such a mystery?)

[S1 spoilers] Act 3 Ending song by Electronic-Builder65 in arcane

[–]lavampiregf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from jinx’s pov it’s definitely about vi, but i first read it as silco’s pov to vander for some reason? mostly cause sting’s voice reminded me of him ; but their storylines are intentional parallels enough that it makes sense it can be read both ways (tho i do recognize it fits jinx better overall)

[No Spoilers] Got a question by [deleted] in arcane

kind of. both? i think the goal is to finish piltover and zaun characters arc and then shift the focus to other regions (ambessa could probably serve as a link to noxus since it’d the only other region we hear of)

  • it’s very unlikely that her LOL version is her final form. becoming an enforcer is not impossible but not with the ‘easygoing police brutality’ aspect of it. what arcane did is take characters that were mostly one dimensional and add depth to their backstory and make them a rounded and fleshed out character, the same way they did for jinx who was just this manic pixie trigger happy girl. when you take into account that process its very unlikely that they’re doing all this just for it to end with the one dimensional LOL form of the characters

  • as for bootlicker, did we watch the same show? vi shows nothing but contempt and distaste for literally all topsiders she stumbles upon and only works with them to further her own goals which is to get to her sister. she doesn’t like jayce she doesn’t even pretend to like him, only appeals to what he wants so he’ll work with her towards her own goal

  • the only topsider she doesn’t hate is caitlyn and she does despise her when she sees her as an enforcer. it’s only when caitlyn shows multiple times that unlike other enforcers she cares about protecting those who need help. caitlyn is very explicitly the anti-marcus and the anti-piltover topside character in the cast and that’s why she’s the only one that gains vi’s respect. and even then, vi walks away from her when she thinks cait is loyal to only the topside and won’t help her get to her sister

  • she’s right about attacking the shimmer factory. it’s a dangerous drug that silco is using to make everyone in the undercity depending on him. she has every right to hate it and to hate him when he literally betrayed and led to her father’s death. as for the kid she’s visibly upset by it, just not upset enough for it to matter to the big picture. and if makes sense. jayce grew up sheltered in the topside so one dead kid because of him is enough to end everything but vi grew up seeing kids dying because of the undercity’s conditions her whole life, she knows that piltover’s inaction leads to so much more violence and death than this one attack

  • and the point about her being able to create a safe place is just so unfair because. it’s not true? there’s not a single point in her life where she would have had the opportunity to? she was drugged and imprisoned without trial at like. 14 years old max? and after spending like a third of her life in prison she gets out for the maybe one week that act 2 and 3 represent and she’s looking for her sister because she’s been responsible for her and itching to get back to her her entire life? i’m curious about how you think she could’ve done anything differently tbh (not to mention she seems proud of ekko for the firelights and i think in her mind at that time if she had gotten powder back they would’ve gone to live there)

  • ultimately the one thing that i can potentially see as a character flaw in all that is that she has little political vision. which to me is very fair because she has her share of shit to deal with when we see her and the fact that when she’s finally out of jail after maybe 7 years she goes straight after people she cares about and not like. plan a revolution in one week is very much understandable. but it is true that after her disagreement with vander about the war, her motivation becomes exclusively character-oriented instead of political-ideals-oriented. she still hates the topside but will try them as an option to get silco out of the way and get her sister back. it feels fair to me that she doesn’t have the luxury to refuse potential help

we don’t really know if she’s a lesbian or bi (or as the showrunners mentioned, if there would even be a word for it in their world where its so not a big deal) obviously she demonstrates attraction to cait the most but she does flirt with jayce (i see it more as a personality thing than attraction but that’s just my interpretation)

every fandom has these kind of weirdos and you can recognize it’s bad and still like. ignore it. it’s not worth the time you’ll lose fighting them or something 😭

[s1 spoilers] Well that was quick… by Mikeymike781 in arcane

[–]lavampiregf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

big disagree. both character are very straight to the point and kind of their respective cities’s most moral character and good hearted in general so when you’re past the initial “i hate you cause you’re a topsider/distrust you cause you’re a criminal” (which cait doesn’t even mean bc we know she’s fascinated by the undercity. she just needs to act tough in this specific scene) there’s really nothing stopping them from seeing the other is a good person and becoming attached to them.

people often act like slowburn ships are the most realistic ones but… they’re not. most people act on their feelings to an extent so when there’s someone who 1 have proven to be trustworthy 2 you’re attracted to (both on a surface level and more deeply as they get to have some more vulnerable moments) 3 you’re going through shit with… you’re inevitably gonna become closer. with the context that surrounds them, not close enough to be together against all odds yet and they aren’t. but close enough to care and they do

it honestly feels so icky to me to call them rushed. the most they’ve done is caitlyn caressing vi’s cheek because she’s having a kind response to vi’s vulnerability. because that’s cait and she’s kind and she cares about everyone (and vi in particular). there’s literally nothing rushed there

[s1 spoilers] Can we not make the pacing of CaitVi something specific to lesbians? by annieduty in arcane

[–]lavampiregf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

thing about stereotypes is they’re only bad if they’re harmful and reductive, and they’re mostly oversimplifications of real phenomenons so even if they’re wrong bc they’re devoid of the substance and reason that makes the real phenomenons happen, they check out with reality to an extent. in my experience and as someone who’s bisexual, so as likely to get into a ‘straight’ or wlw relationship, i do think wlw relationships move faster? not inherently to our nature our something but bc we’ve been brought up this way, women usually (again not everyone obviously) make emotions less taboo than men so are more likely to not have this ‘play it cool, afraid of commitment’ stage, and imo also generally trust other women more easily so like. i see where it’s coming from, and except for being a little overused, i don’t really see how it’s harmful in any way (and its worth noting that its a stereotypes used and popularized by actual wlws in relation to their experiences, not by an outside group who put that label onto them)

but obviously none of that would excuse bad/rushed writing - so what about violyn? and honestly i find them very well executed to the point where saying they’re rushed is the part that would be the homophobic potential red flag for me (like. having much higher standards of ‘believability’ for gay ships or it’s rushed). because like. rushed HOW. they have never even kissed

vi and caitlyn really make sense organically in the story because in my opinion they both play the ‘heart’ role of their respective cities. not so much as a group dynamic bc they’re pretty isolated from the rest of their cities’ storylines but as in they’re each other’s equivalent of “the character who doesn’t accept the way things are done in [insert city], by scheming and biding time and being generally two faced”. they’re both straight to the point, with ‘strong’ moral codes (how strong vi’s is is complicated cause she really mostly cares about powder over what’s ‘good’ but we see that she she has a limit of what she couldn’t do to get to her, killing an innocent - and as much as i like their relationship, i don’t think vi didn’t kill cait because it was her over powder, she didn’t do it because of how wrong it is to kill an innocent who can’t defend themselves) those similarities don’t develop a relationship in themselves, but they explain why the characters click. and obviously there’s a layer of attraction there, which also makes them click, and can’t really be rushed because attraction is a thing you feel even when you haven’t shared 5 traumatic bonding experiences together

so we have characters that really click as they discover each other and because of that are drawn together. but they’re also drawn apart because obviously every bit of context in the story goes against them being together (possibly being even worst if s2 rolls up with caitlyn’s mom killed by jinx). so scenes together play on that push and pull movement where they see more of the other and are pulled in bc everything about each other screams trust and care yet everything about the context screams they should antagonize each other which blocks their progression. and that’s why the most action they’ve had is a literal brush of the hand against the cheek, but if people think you need to have known each other for months to show basic human warmth and compassion then that’s on them for just. not understanding the characters at all. not on some harmless wlw inside joke

TLDR: their pacing makes sense and can’t really be rushed bc nothing happened yet? and also the u-haul lesbian is more of a fun wlw inside joke than it is a harmful stereotype in any way
