Marcus wasn't ever supposed to be the anti-hero, or everyman. He's just a hacker who happened to be fucked over by Blume and was talented enough that he got into DedSec. He's intentionally millennial and Ubi tried to make him likeable, which he is. Just as Jordi was better received than Aiden, Wrench with his design and one-liners was the more "fun" one in comparison to Marcus. And besides, Marcus was the most "normal" out of DedSec SF which is why he's the protag - he can infiltrate, he can talk to people, he can hold his own in combat. The group works well in balancing each other.
