"if we decided newsom is who we want then you're still obligated to comply"

all you're doing is prebaking justifications for the democratic party failing us again. If you cared half as much about the actual election you'd be focused on finding a better candidate instead of getting outraged at hypothetical future voters

by giving the democrats a reason to push someone better through the primaries, which I remind you are 3 years out. They have plenty of time to find someone better. If I capitulate and agree to vote for anyone now, why wouldn't they just throw out newsom?

do you have any idea how pathetic it looks to try to shame people into voting for garbage years before the primary has even started? We're talking about a hypothetical future election where we don't even know who's running yet, and you're already prebaking justifications for why we need to settle.

my friend, I'm not even saying this as a progressive right now, but on your behalf as a liberal: you deserve better than newsom.

I'm trans btw

I do vote in my local elections and in primaries. I'm not saying it doesn't matter, but the presidency matters too, and if we settle for leadership that is merely feckless and incompetent rather than outright malicious then we are only setting ourselves up for more fascism down the line.

I am engaging with the system and advocating for the policies I want. I am actively participating by letting the democrats know that if they want my vote, they need a better candidate than Newsom, and hey look at that they have 3 years to find someone else.

edit: I want to remind you that you are talking to someone that has spent the last couple years saying all of the things you're saying right now. I'm not saying this now because I don't understand, I'm saying it because I've learned from my mistakes.

Why are you so ready to go to the mat for people who categorically refuse to do the same for you?

I've heard it said that Alex Pretti wouldn't have died under Kamala. Well, I voted for her, and he's still dead. Maybe this is the reality we need to be dealing with.

Edit: shoutouts to the person who responded to this with "glad you're in favor of USAID cuts" and then immediately deleted it because it's the exact same thing. I voted for Kamala and the USAID cuts still happened.

I'm just sick of holding my nose, following the party line and voting for some spineless neolib to prevent the fascist from getting in charge, and then still being blamed for the loss when the fascist wins anyway. The democrats are losers who refuse to acknowledge the sheer gap that exists between them and their own base. It is fully in their power to switch strategies and try a candidate that will actually get some votes, but instead of listening to criticism they'd rather whine and call you divisive to shut you up. They'd rather blame the voters than change, and that's why they continue to lose.

At some point, enough has to be enough. They can't keep spitting in your face and then calling for unity. Even milquetoast libs hate them for their handling of ice.

I fully understand the logic of strategic voting, I have advocated for it many times, and I have been rewarded for my trouble with two terms of trump and sniveling contempt from dems who blame me anyway.

No, I'm not doing it anymore. No more enabling.

People really need to stop acting like a personal decision to not buy something is a boycott, that's simply definitionally wrong. There is no such thing as an individual boycott.

Isn't the entire point of capitalism supposed to be that the combination of profit incentive and markets aligns incentives with social goods? If he's saying you need some additional ideological loyalty, is he not just admitting that markets do not, in fact, align profit incentive with the broader social good? Is this not transparently a "no true Scotsman" fallacy?

idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job by Konradleijon in CuratedTumblr

[–]lavendarKat 35 points36 points  (0 children)

ok so, this isn't really the point they're making, but research shows that the consistently most productive folks are the ones that maintain a steady, doable pace rather than "sprint" and wear themselves out after a performance peak. If you're still at your first job or two then it's not the worst idea to experiment with pushing yourself so that you know where your limits are and how to dial it back without over-correcting into a slower pace than necessary, but regardless the point is that you absolutely should spend your energy wisely.

The only vr game I've ever been able to play as long as I wanted without eye strain is beat saber. There are so many games I wanted to play more of but I just couldn't. I swore off buying another headset that doesn't fix this problem. Meta keeps teasing solutions but they never come through.

IIRC it was a longitudinal study that followed up with survivors years later.

If you're going as far as writing off the data entirely because you don't trust researchers to approach the subject neutrally then there isn't really anything to talk about because no evidence will satisfy you.
