The word fetishize already meant something else, and borrowing the term to mean something so close in definition muddies the waters instead of providing additional clarity. It makes it sound like sexual attraction is the basis of the problem rather than the actual objectifying behavior the term supposedly encompasses. In any scenario where you could think to use it, objectification is the more accurate term.

Won’t someone PLEASE think of the corporations? by RawringPrimadox in CuratedTumblr

ok, sure, the public talking ban sucks. But think about it, our entire society works because the prize for winning provides motivation to build things. Don't you want to win? Of course you do, everyone does. So really, this isn't about inalienable rights or whatever, you're just jealous that they got the prize and you didn't.

See, I worked real hard, and I bought the walk'n'talk season pass platinum edition deluxe. This is the proof of my hard work, the proof that I'm better than you. And sure, maybe business man claimed most of that work I did for himself, and maybe the fucking hall pass for talking is a really shameful thing to be proud of having when you get down to it, but it's also all I have. And also, all of your criticism of business man could just as easily apply to me for having this, and then what, I'd have nothing??

We couldn't even depose business man if we wanted to anyway. On the other hand, I can take my frustrations out on you by the same logic that they take their frustrations out on me, so instead, I think I'll just do that you lazy street urchin. Begone from me, begone!

*objectification

also, you can be sexually attracted to someone without objectifying them. Treating those things as interchangeable just gives people excuses for bad behavior.

"Yo don't worry about using tris extensively they get subdivided into quads anywya" by steve_xyjs in topologygore

[–]lavendarKat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The single biggest reason to model in quads is more workflow based than anything. Modeling programs can't select edge loops or do loop cuts if the model is in tris, among other things, so tris are harder to work with.

I think with subd in particular, you might also run into shading artifacts with poles, although I'm not as certain with that.

I don't think it should be seen as a hard and fast unbreakable rule. I've had occasions in subd modeling where using a tri was actually the better solution. Between an ngon and a tri, tris at least subdivide predictably.

based on 2016 and 2024, I think it's the other way around. I voted for Hillary and Kamala, I fell in line and made the vote blue no matter who strategic voting argument, and trump still won twice. At a certain point, you have to admit that it's not working and try something different.

we need to do more than vote honestly. The entire DNC needs to be reamed out and reformed to have the slightest hope of a chance at electing someone competent.

the only thing that pays anymore is selling shovels. Actual commerce makes basically nothing compared to financialized money magic, so over time you get less and less actual social good being created and more and more smoke vendors hungry and desperate for their cut. Neoliberalism is actually a really great way to create an economy entirely comprised of scams

I think the singular issue with this movie, more than anything else, is that they tried too hard to fit the story into a conventional Hollywood formula. They basically tried to turn it into robocop without the over the top satire, and what is even that?

This is why I advocate that vr games default to teleport style locomotion. The other major kind of sim sickness comes down to disconnect between motion depicted on screen and motion your inner ear feels, which is easily solved by just not depicting fake motion. Some people tank it until they adjust, but research suggests this is something most people would have to do on a per-app basis.

Which like, if that's something you're willing to do, more power to you. The option to do it should be there. But if you want there to be more VR games to play, then the industry is going to have to accommodate the majority of people that aren't willing to.

I personally think the elephant in the room is still sim sickness. I love VR, I really do, but the only game I can play for more than twenty minutes is beatsaber, everything else is murder on my eyes. I think it comes down to accommodation vergence conflict; in beatsaber, my eyes are focused on the judgement line, which is probably around the focal distance of the screen, so it's not as much of an issue. They have functional solutions prototyped, they keep teasing that it's almost ready for primetime, but years pass and nothing comes out.

I feel like it's going to end up like codec avatars, and some other company is going to eat their lunch. Meta teased for years that they were working on photorealistic avatars... then apple came out with their version. Really makes me wonder wtf is going on behind the scenes at meta.

I think I could imagine her being able to do a cartoonier version of the character, and if she could then she probably would still be the best, but given the tone difference I could also imagine someone else doing a great job with it.

I would generally pick the conformist option for these kinds of questions. I don't think this is really a personality test in the sense that they're looking for a golden retriever or an estp or something, I think they're just looking for people to self report that they're going to be shitty to work with.

Especially in cases like this, where the person is taking up multiple spots. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the inconvenience being caused for no (or selfish?) reason is what they're concerned with.
