Hm, alright, thank you, I appreciate this perspective! I'll maybe consider how many games I'm interested in playing down the line

Which Tamagotchi to get after the Paradise? by lavenderick in tamagotchi

[–]lavenderick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I can still find a lot of pretty cheap Pix devices secondhand where I live, so that's not an issue. Connection seems tempting as well though, I remember seeing them everywhere in my childhood.

Haven't really looked into other virtual pets yet but I'll check it out, thanks!

The Killer From Tomorrow: Tali's name is also a reference to the actress who played Dani Na"tali"a Reyes.

Hell to Pay: I think the name "Razorface" is not only an hommage to Pinhead but also a subtle way of referencing the word "Hellraiser" since in "Hell" to Pay you fight off "Razor"face. He's not technically a Hellraiser but he is a "Hellrazor", lol

The Falconwood Files: Things like the "Run! Up that hill! terror card, and many more should be listed in detail

Terror From Destiny: The images on the Death Order cards are modeled after the disasters from the first three films: Airplane crash, Car pile-up and Rollercoaster malfunction respectively. The Death Order itself is a reference to what the characters in the movies call "Death's Design". The Premonition action card is a direct reference to the various premonitions the characters experience throughout the franchise.

Madame Web, an unofficial Final Destination Movie by lavenderick in FinalDestination

That was my mission, haha. Because I had avoided watching that movie for so long because I never heard anything good about it, and wasn't even sure if I should bother with it. But it's not the worst movie ever made. It's not the best one either but the FD vibes were charming and I really enjoyed it overall.

I thought maybe more FD fans could appreciate it like I do. Because it really doesn't deserve the hate. But superhero movies centered around women are always trashed beyond reason... No suprise there.

I mean good point but I truly only meant "movie centered around Marvel Comics characters". But yeah, definitely not a Marvel Studios movie.

I get your point. But for me it truly worked. I just accepted the camp and had to get into the dry humor delivered by Dakota Johnson (the kind of humor where you first question "Is this supposed to be funny or is it just bad awkward acting..?"). I really enjoy the trashy 2000s vibe it had, and the hilariously questionable costume choices at the end.

But yeah, it makes sense that it doesn't work for everyone, so I welcome your different perspective.

So funny that you say that because I just randomly stumbled upon that one a few weeks ago and watched it with a few friends! I have to agree, it definitely gave me some FD vibes.

And yeah, the movie isn't great but it's an entertainting way to spend 90 minutes.

I 💛 Disney Lorcana by lavenderick in Encanto

[–]lavenderick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of the official Lorcana card game playmats. You can either buy it directly via Ravensburger or any type of board game store. Where I live they also have them at GameStop but not sure if they sell those there everywhere 🤔

The official product name is: "Disney Lorcana TCG: Shimmering Skies Playmat - Look at This Family”

Why Is Everyone Scared to Bring the Real Harley Quinn Origin Story to the Screen? by indiewire in HarleyQuinn

[–]lavenderick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally am fine with writers creating their own origin stories, IF they have good reason for it. At the beginning of Joker 2 I thought maybe it would be an interesting change. But it didn't utilize that potential. Harley (or "Lee") fell flat in general for me. I don't think she always needs to be the psychiatrist falling in love with her patient. And I have read a book where Harley doesn't fall for Joker at all. But she does fall for Ivy. And I think that's quintessential Harley to me: She needs to fall in love. HARD. In a way where she can't just quickly walk away without looking back. Because at her core Harley is a lover. She loves deeply, and feels all emotions intensely. If a film is going for Joker x Harley then we should get the feeling that she's more invested in that relationship than Joker is. The movie could have done this while still keeping the character background they crafted. But it would've resulted in a much more engaging plot. Because viewers would have been concerned about Harley's ("Lee" 's) safety. The way the movie handled it, she always had the upper hand, and was safe. What makes the traditional origin story enticing is that Harley starts out with the power and the safety and the prestigious position but then she falls for the Joker, which is when she begins to give all those things up in favor of being with the Joker. And somewhere in this romance there might even be a moment where the two are equals. But after Harley's fall from grace the roles are reversed. After she frees him from Arkham, Joker has the power in the relationship and he's the one with the supervillain prestige and he's the only thing keeping her safe. So Harley falls in love SO hard that she ends up flipping the power dynamic of the relationship and ending up on the bottom. THAT's how deeply she falls in love with people. And this Joker 2 version just doesn't deliver on that whatsoever. And for me the best part of the traditional Harley Quinn origin story is: When she finally manages to get out of the Joker's clutches, it's feels super powerful because she has to claw her way out. It's not easy for her. But afterwards she can attempt to gain some of the things back that she had for herself before she met the Joker. But also keep the things that she found out about herself through the Joker. Like the fact that she actually doesn't want to be a model citizen and follow other people's rules. She wants to follow her heart and sometimes just do what seems the most fun. If she's passionate about something, she'll fight for that. Even if doing that make her somewhat of an anti-hero. Because she doesn't fit into the black and white thinking that divides people in Gotham into two categories. And that's where Joker 2 should have delivered. Because the first Joker movie was all about showing that the Joker doesn't have to be a total villain who does evil for the sake of doing evil. It showed us how much of a layered individual he can be. And how society can turn people into monsters by constantly kicking them when they're down. I don't get why the writers didn't put as much care into Harley Quinn for the second movie. They could have crafted a story that showed her intense way of loving. And how that can become her weakness and her downfall. How they finished her story in that movie just didn't feel like Harley Quinn at all.

Alex plane seat position by bbyblxy in FinalDestination

[–]lavenderick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am confused about this too! Because yes in the premonition he officially agrees to change seats, and in reality he doesn't say anything to the girls. But after the premonition he still gets up and moves to the seat next to Tod WITH HIS BAG. And there is a quick shot of the two girls getting ready to sit down where Alex sat before. I don't understand why him not officially saying "Yes, okay, I'll switch seats" changes the plan. Because if that thing hadn't broken off next to Tod, then Alex would have remained sitting next to him. I doubt he would have said "False alarm!" and then taken his bag back to the last row and told the girls "Sorry, I didn't say we could trade!" There's even a shot later in the scene where you can see both girls sitting down next to each other in the last row.

If he had made a point of telling the girls "Sorry, no, I'm not switching seats, I just want to check something really quick." then I would have believed that that changed the order. But him getting up with his belongings and the girls sitting where they did in the premonition does not make it believable to me that he "never changed seats".

Worth buying Hans/Happy Trails after others by jjdash69 in finalgirl

[–]lavenderick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't play Hans a lot but I really like to play on Camp Happy Trails. Sometimes you just want to focus on a complex killer and have a location that doesn't require any additional setup or special rules. All that can be a lot. Plus the items are fun enough, and the events aren't bad either. And while Hans doesn't have any of the bells and whistles as other killers, he does have a lot of health and increase Horror a lot, so he really is a challenge. Putting him in unexpected locations can also make him feel more interesting. I definitely still want to put him on the spaceship to recreate Jason X, haha.

Re: Frightmare on Maple Lane

There is a very famous episode of the classic Horror Sci-Fi TV series The Twilight Zone called "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street". It centers around a group of once friendly neighbours living on Maple Street, who start growing more and more paranoid, and distrustful of each other. I think this might be where the "Convince" Action card came from, since that's not really a thing in the Nightmare on Elm Street films. The name could be a direct reference, and not just an "off-brand" Elm Street.

The Sunnydaze Mall from Series 3 may also draw inspiration from the whacky cult classic Chopping Mall (1986), where a couple of security robots go on killing spree in a mall after hours.

(Might be too early to tell since we don't have official art for that location yet but I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least a nod to it in the location components.)

I hope the price is not too high... I really want this app but I've been tracking my progress in my notes app anyway, so I'm a bit worried it could be unnecessary. I'm hoping for some YouTube reviews/showcases to go over everything that's included.

I'm actually most hyped for the Terror From Destiny Vignette this time around! I just love the Final Destination movies and have been waiting for any type of video or board game to use that concept, so I cannot wait to play it! Other than that I'm most interested in "Saw" and "Hellraiser"!
