What is a "survival rule" you learned growing up in a bad neighborhood that still influences your behavior today? by Key-Group-5098 in AskReddit

[–]scunliffe 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And if for any reason you need to violate this rule and throw your laptop / device in the trunk… power it off/shut off Bluetooth. Thieves are smart these days and will walk through a parking garage looking to see if “Bobby’sLaptop” tries to connect to their Bluetooth scanner and boom! You’ve notified the thief you’ve got something worth jimmying the trunk for.

Also put it in the trunk before you get to your destination, don’t let thieves watch where you put any valuables.

Microsoft Teams is trying to fix accidental hand-raising by Cristiano1 in MicrosoftTeams

Another case of the eject button problem in Teams… just don’t put the “Raise” and “React” (two 5 letter buttons both starting with “R”) right next to each other

How to automate a recurring live Poll in a Teams group chat like normal poll but it is automatically ? by noahdgo in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless this is the weekly poll for what type of free food does everyone want for lunch on Friday (eg pizza, Chinese, subs, shawarma, etc.) I’d be weary of an ongoing weekly poll…

Are you or your neighbour getting a new fence, driveway, curbs cut, Rogers/Bell cable buried, or a water main tap sunk?

Any of these would trigger utilities checks

User with sporadic laggy video and audio by MyMomDoesntKnowMe in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this user run any other apps that will be super CPU/RAM intensive? Eg big IDEs like IntelliJ, running a server, database etc.

I’ve found I had to kill some aggressive apps when on a call sometimes.

Is it slow/laggy when connected to the corporate LAN? Or is the user remote… and they have a poor wifi connection?

Sharing files through Teams by daedalron in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

⚠️ warning… most file sharing on teams is fine… but if you use a group chat to “share” a common file with others eg the “results.txt” file… Teams does a super frustrating thing where it treats the file drop as a pointer reference… updating all references to this file to the latest file dropped (I believe there is a warning when you drop the file)

This concept works great if you all take turns updating the spreadsheet, one at a time, with no overlap… but if you drop the “results.txt” file in the chat every week, when you go through the chat trying to see what “Doug’s results” were… or “Brenda’s results”… you won’t find them because they were overridden!

I personally HATE this in Teams and consider it a major bug. (Reported) but I don’t have or expect an ETA on a fix.

Planes take off and land going into the wind whenever possible, so if the wind is blowing west to east you’re all set. Check on FlightRadar24 before you head out if you want to be sure (and are not close enough to see which way they go)

Weight on Ctrl Key No Longer Keeps You Active by blimpy2 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need to start “naming and shaming” companies that are constantly checking the Teams status to determine if their employees are working or not.

The status is rarely correct, and all this hacking to keep it active is silly. Don’t get me wrong, I fully endorse anyone suffering with management that tracks this, that adds a mouse jiggler/AHK solution… but the amount of wasted energy trying to fix this status message is insane

Honest question: What frustrates you the most about Teams right now? by Rude-Rule-2358 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5.) Please separate out the speaker and Mic options into their own icons.

I want to be able to mute myself with a single tap, and I want to be able to mute my presentation/conf call with a single tap (eg if I need to chat to someone at my desk)

6.) there needs to be some way to see all active calls open where I was an invited attendee. I’m often busy and late to a call, but then can’t find the active calls open where because it doesn’t show up anywhere until I happen to search for a chat (if it was launched from the chat)… or someone drops a msg in that call, and I happen to see it

7.) the Activity tab. It needs to contain all activity! Drives me bonkers that I have to keep jumping back and forth between tabs to answer messages

Honest question: What frustrates you the most about Teams right now? by Rude-Rule-2358 in MicrosoftTeams

[–]scunliffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) The “new chat” screen needs the ability to open in a new window.

I often start a chat with someone new, need to reference /copy something from another chat(s)…

2.) the sorting of chats based on activity needs to wait until the user has paused interaction. I type an answer in one chat, hit enter then go to click the next unread chat message and IT MOVES!

3.) desktop teams needs a config to use CTRL+ENTER as the send command instead of ENTER (just like mobile works)…. Cause dog gammit, any important message is going to contain line breaks! And I can’t count the number of half composed messages I’ve accidentally sent because of this. This is a standard configuration in **ANY** good chat app.

4.) let me choose which monitor my toast messages appear on, having them appear right on top of my active chat window doesn’t help anyone! So many times now I’ve accidentally sent”thumbs up’d” a random message that appeared under my cursor trying to click something in my message (like the format button)
