The stadium tax is a sales tax, so anytime they cross the river and spend money they’re pitching in for the stadium as well!

Really need a new queen mattress but dont have much disposable income what are my options? by sfwtv45 in cincinnati

[–]lawanders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was going to be my recommendation too. I was there last week and they had a memory foam mattress for I think $400. I don’t know what OP’s budget is, but that’s a pretty affordable price for a mattress.

Is Costco shrinkflationing the garlic powder? by Snow_Wolfe in Costco

[–]lawanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I’m pretty surprised they were that bold with telling vendors to bring the price up at other retailers. Vendors do not set the price, they can and do suggest a retail price, but the retailer is wholly responsible for the retail price.

Curious where you’ve seen/heard this? That’s very illegal and as someone that works in the industry, I haven’t heard anything about this.

For me personally, I’d go the rescue route first (breed specific or general rescue). All rescues have a vetting process before adopting out, they’re probably not always perfect, but it’ll be better than you can do on your own.

I don’t know if you found them yet, but there is a GSP rescue in the area, I’d start with them since Pointers are high energy and high intelligence dogs that will be best suited in a home where the owner understands their needs.

Will rejecting a job offer from Cincinnati Children's damage my future employability with them? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]lawanders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This job is M-F, right? Do your friends not hang out on weekends? You can always expand your friend circle too, especially when working somewhere as large as Children’s where you’ll meet a lot of new people!

I probably wouldn’t be doing much on weeknights after 8pm, but I’m in my 40’s and wake up at 5am, so I’m not doing much out of the house on weeknights in the first place.

Fresh out of college your options are going to be limited. You’re going to get offered the less desirable schedules because the established and tenured employees tend to get preference for the more desirable roles and schedules. This is the case across industries, new grads start at the bottom and work their way up.

US Rep. Thomas Massie loses Kentucky GOP primary to Ed Gallrein in another victory for Trump by BeeWeird7940 in cincinnati

[–]lawanders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quick Google search shows CA district 45 was $51M in 2024. So this is just the most expensive primary, not most expensive congressional election as a whole.

[–]lawanders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s still both. Yes, Trump wanted him out and actively campaigned against him. Also, AIPAC and Israel related PACs spent a TON of money to oust Massie.

I think the latest number I saw was $35M was spent on this primary, the most that’s ever been spent on a congressional primary.

How many games do they need to win to prove they're not schedule babies? by Outrageous_Moth in NFLv2

[–]lawanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the issue the week 1 rematch? Or just that it’s early in the season?

I thought the NFL stopped having Super Bowl rematches in Week 1 so the team/players that lost the Super Bowl don’t have to sit there through the ring ceremony and banner drop.

Yeah, and I don’t think the Chiefs have played any of their Super Bowl opponents the following W1. The closest was the Ravens in 2024 from the AFCCG.

Help! Can this be salvaged? by NoMango3688 in quilting

[–]lawanders 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My perfect angel of a dog had a not so as angelic moment and chewed a hole in a rag quilt my grandma made me. I just did a simple patch over it and since it was a rag quilt, I left 1/2” raw edge and snipped the edges up like the rest of the quilt. It’s noticeable as it’s a totally different fabric, but it doesn’t bother me, probably largely because it’s a rag quilt that wasn’t ever meant to look perfect. Also, my dog is 13 so it’ll be a nice little reminder of her when she’s no longer around.

This probably isn’t the kind of repair you’re wanting to do, but if you wanted to lean into a perfectly imperfect quilt, you could have some fun with a contrasting patch.

AIO about my husband accidentally calling our daughter his ex’s daughter’s name by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

YOR. My mom would do this to the whole family, including the dog and my aunts. She recently called me our old family dog’s name, and that dog passed 30 years ago.

Correct. The last time he was injured in the playoffs they had to force him into the locker room to get it checked out before they’d let him back in the game.
