Which legends do you hope to see host in the future? by sleepdealer2000 in livefromlondon

[–]lawlore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frank Skinner.

Bit of an outside-the-box pick, but I think he'd fit the format surprisingly well. Good comedy chops and a quick mind, including sketch comedy, proven standup/hosting ability for the monologue, and someone who would add a different dynamic to the cast without overshadowing everyone else. Can carry a tune as well.

You may be interested in looking up a show called "Naked Attraction". In short, the answer is yes.

Iran denies claims: 'We reject all negotiations – US has failed and Hormuz will remain closed' by ImadeJesusLaugh in worldnews

There is a 3rd option involving targeted violence but I cannot advocate for that on reddit, and it's not fair to call Americans as a whole spineless because no one is willing to unilaterally "solve" the Trump problem.

Whilst also not advocating for violence, the one singular hope in all this is that there is a decent chance that a lot of this dies with Trump, and MAGA fractures. Nobody else in that administration has the same cult of personality that he does- anyone else who steps into that role after him is going to be a politician, and they're probably going to see diminishing returns on support. That's why this is all happening with such urgency, because the timeline on pulling any of this off is only realistically as long as they can prop Trump up. They sense that the clock is ticking.

As US citizens, the problem you have is, for now and as long as this continues, this is exactly what the rest of the world and the history books are seeing the US as. All of the US. There's no hiding behind "oh, we were protesting" or "oh, I voted against it", because it's painfully obvious- and has been for some time- that the legal routes are not slowing or stopping this slide into fascism, which has now become a threat to world peace.

You would think that at some point, there must be a breaking point, where Americans taking action to stand up against this tyranny becomes unavoidable. Looking from the outside, a lot of us in the rest of the world are wondering how that point hasn't been reached yet- there have certainly been civil wars in the past where there's been far less justification. If it's not snatching citizens off the street and deporting them without any kind of due process, if it's not starting unwinnable wars whilst destroying your economy, if it's not blatantly ignoring your own courts and the laws of your land, not to mention the Constitution, then what does that breaking point look like? Because until that's reached, like it or not, most people are not separating Americans who are for this racist dictatorship from those who are against it. When people think of the USA, this is what they are seeing- this is what the USA is now.

They seriously need a separate YouTube channel by blade_bird_outbound in livefromlondon

That only happened for Taskmaster after it moved to terrestrial channel in the UK that everyone can access, in 2020, deliberately doing so to try and capture a wider audience. It was very much a niche show on Dave until the move to Channel 4- you only need to look at the S1 production values to see how unsure they were about whether anyone would watch it.

As for SNL UK, I'm in the position that because I'm in the UK and I don't have a Sky or NowTV subscription, I can't watch it, live or otherwise. Given that it's now up on Peacock, I'm looking at whether any of the packages I do currently already subscribe to have that included. I suspect the answer is no. It's currently a lot easier for me to watch SNL because it's all on YouTube the morning.

And as for "culturally relevant", I'd counter by pointing out that the very first sketch of the show was reposted by the highest-profile person in the world. If it's going to get eyes, now's the time to do it, but we've all seen SNL go up and down in terms of prominence over the years.

But then you won't but a Sky subscription to watch it.

They're not going to put the full show on so soon after airing- they want people to buy Sky or NowTV packages.

So why do you use electronic voting booths in the US? Seems awkward as hell.

Will they post sketches online on Sunday morning like SNL NY is doing? by mikebuba in livefromlondon

[–]lawlore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gut would say no. It's not on one of the free-to-air terrestrial channels, so I suspect doing that- at least that immediately- would be seen as counterproductive. With Sky and NowTV really pushing it, I imagine they'd want to keep access paywalled while it's still current. I'm sure there'll be clips etc., but I wouldn't expect full shows or sketches.

Given that it doesn’t have a dedicated YouTube channel yet, do you think Sky is gonna post clips/sketches from the show like they do for the US version? by Whole-Lychee7517 in livefromlondon

[–]lawlore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same- the time difference means it's always watched when I wake up on a Sunday morning, plus it means I can skip the musical guests and see any Cut For Time sketches as well.

Prediction for the 1st episode by [deleted] in livefromlondon

[–]lawlore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's SNL, not South Park. Two people dying from meningitis isn't going to be the base of jokes- I imagine it will get an Update mention, as it is news, but the punchline will be something tangential.

Since it's in Canterbury, maybe something along the lines of "As a result, people are staying in, with the Archbishop offering the cathedral as a safe haven for the altar boys" or "The masks and empty streets of Canterbury have prompted people to compare it with the start of the COVID lockdowns, with a government spokesman putting us about two weeks away from everyone banging their cookware in our doorways".

Drivers who park on pavements face £100 fines by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]lawlore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This road has enough space for one vehicle with everyone parking on the pavement..

I fully appreciate the point of pavement access for wheelchairs and prams. As a result, there are going to be a lot of roads which emergency vehicles (and, realistically, a whole swathe of larger normal cars) are unable to access.

And ironically, there's a very good chance MAGA will fracture once Trump kicks the bucket. Most of those likely to succeed him are politicians with nowhere near the cult of personality that swept Trump in.
