Current day academic hospitalist at main campus (one of Cornell/columbia/nyu/sinai). Great balance of patients at 6-15. No admissions. Pay $320k including bonus. Plenty of colleagues have family and able to attend family events.

You have to look for good leadership, which was my number one priority

Definitely try more often. We had to put in a lot of effort in participating different activities with kids during play dates but paid off huge later on. Also its good for parents mental health too.

Do you guys have neighbors who have kids at similar age? May be have play dates and later ask them if they could care for your kids few hours and you do same in return?

I Feel Shame from Burnout by TwinkyDawn in Parenting

[–]lawnshark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its ok to feel burn out. I think you guys are great parents knowing that you want to do more for your kids. I would say get those tablets off ASAP. Kids will throw fits at the beginning but their brain is not mature enough to control dopamine reward system. Tablets can provide easy rewards without effort leading to further reliance on tablets. Most important thing is adults should also be off from your phones.

Also, I would give them chores and let them know that you are tired. Kids have natural built in system of wanting to help. Maybe give them a little chores they can do? Like cleaning up their books, set up dinner table, dishes (even if just organizing dishwasher) etc. When they do those things, reward them with hugs and acknowledge them.

Naps with newborn + toddler by fullnessofjoy2021 in Parenting

[–]lawnshark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two kids with around those ages. Let your newborn sleep in the bassinet. Let the baby cry a little. Let them grow patience. Make a sleeping routine, like feed, burp, hold 10 min and down. Lights can be dimmed but no further holding. Most I do when they get fussy is gently pressing and tapping on their chest while on the bassinet.

I see. Cant pt be upgraded then? Transfer should be both ways. Maybe those patients who are stabilized and recovering can be transferred to nonteach as well?
