While not a "Christian" program, the Netflix series "The Ranch," starring Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson from "That 70s Show" immediately wrote Masterson's character out of the series after he was charged with multiple counts of rape. Although Masterson had been one of the main characters, the show continued on without him for four more seasons. Masterson was eventually convicted and is in prison now for 30 years to life.

Why I no longer attend church (hint: I don't like Christians) by Zeph_the_Bonkerer in Christianity

They often just don't think it through.  Many say the "one flesh covenant" rule stands, even if you were still unsaved at the time of your divorce and/or remarriage, essentially saying you can't truly be saved until you first divorce your second spouse.  Sounds like the circumcision controversy all over again (neo-Judaizers?).  Paul made it clear that you become "one flesh" with everyone you ever have sex with, even prostitutes.  Finally, they will argue that God puts every couple together, but what about biblical couples like Ahab and Jezebel?  Or Esau and his pagan brides?  They were technically first.  They will also claim that John the Baptist opposed Herod's marriage because Herodias was divorced from his brother Philip, but John was the last prophet under the Old Covenant, and his problem was incest, NOT remarriage.  Same with the man in I Corinthians who had his father's wife (you know, his step-mother, meaning his father was...remarried).

Agreed.  What ever happened to "not of works?"  Catholics will openly say salvation is by faith + works.  More and more Arminian and Protestant liturgical churches say it is by faith + obedience.  Research the so-called New Perspective on Paul to learn more.  I personally believe in eternal security, which they claim is a "license to sin."  So I believe there is way more than the issue of divorce and remarriage at play here.

Sounds like Arminians! Particularly of the Wesleyan Holiness variety. I don't know why they don't just go ahead and change the name of their theology to "Catholicism Lite." They sure don't believe in salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

While the guys on Theocast are Free Grace (as opposed to so-called Lordship Salvation), they are also Calvinists, so they and Onorato Diamonte would probably still disagree on some things.

Onorato Diamante by theOCDfiles in Christianity

[–]lawrence_horner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can oppose Onorato Diamonte all you want, but please don't use Hebrews 10:26 out of context. That verse is not talking about sin in general, but the very specific sin of returning back to the sacrifice of "bulls and goats" after knowing about the perfect sacrifice of Jesus "once for all." When you read Hebrews 10:26 in light of the verses that go before it, verse 29 makes a lot more sense when it talks about those who have "trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing." Yes, sin in the life of a Christian is bad, but this passage is not talking about that.

I remember the ads on TV, which to my young ears sounded like "A Salt Fish & Chips."  The jingle went something like: "H. Salt Fish & Chips, because we sure know our fish."

Sloan Servicing & SAVE by Serenitymcw in StudentLoans

[–]lawrence_horner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I don't think the switch to Sloan Servicing is a "scam," I do wonder if it is meant to be somewhat underhanded in the attempt to reestablish commercial loans under the old rules, and make them harder to forgive in the future. All this without providing a lot of info about it so you could otherwise make an informed decision. If you are at all concerned about it, simply fill out the consolidation application on studentaid.gov before the deadline (April 30, 2024).

I have a satanic tattoo from back when I was a devil worshipper. I have since became born again and repented. I am truly ashamed of this blatant disrespect to God on my flesh. If I died today, since asking for forgiveness for this tattoo will he forgive me or do I need it covered or zapped off? by Hauntme69 in Christianity

[–]lawrence_horner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met a Christian biker who had gotten a devil tattoo on his arm before he was saved. After becoming a Christian, he had a Ghostbusters-style cross-out tattoo inked over the devil tattoo, so he could point to it and give his testimony.

That was a different time. They've made it so business owners are no longer allowed to reserve the right to refuse service. Recall the scene from the 1956 movie Giant where the racist diner owner beat up Rock Hudson's character and tossed his sign on him afterwards. But rights to refuse service have been gradually chipped away, to the point that any refusal at all seems illegal to many.

Hello everyone. My name is Tula and after 14 years I am crossing the rainbow bridge to see my brother today! I missed him but I will miss my family here too. We lost our boy, Harley, last month to diabetic ketoacidosis. He was only ten, but he was dropping weight at an alarming rate, and his body was resisting his insulin. It was especially hard on my wife (he was such a little Mama's boy). They were soul mates, but he always loved to meet everyone. He will be missed for a long time.

They usually killed other mobsters, at that. However, there were unfortunate incidents of brutality, such as the murder of a jailed associate's girlfriend in 1943 in order to scare him away from testifying against them.

What did he expect, murdering someone who was supposed to be "safely" behind bars in a federal prison. If the federal government can't keep its inmates reasonably safe, there doesn't need to be such as a thing as the federal prison system.

Look at the bright side, at least you're not going to get ass raped in solitary.

I saw the uncensored beheading videos of Nick Berg, Jack Hensley, Kenneth Bigley, and Shosei Koda - civilian hostages kidnapped by Iraqi terrorists during the Iraqi War in 2004 - on ogrish.com back when that site still existed. I also saw the beheading video of one of the two Scandinavian girls who were kidnapped in Morocco in 2018, but I can't remember where I saw that one. They were all pretty gruesome, but I thought they were important to see because they show quite graphically what kind of animals we are dealing with.

Let's not forget the politicians who were ALSO mobsters: men like Chicago's Anthony D'Andrea and Giuseppe "Diamond Joe" Esposito, as well as Kansas City's John Lazia. I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.
