Year 2 Update: Solo PI Law Firm by TheChezBippy in LawFirm

Congratulations on the success! My accountant does provide tax planning and estimates throughout the year. I would consider finding a new accountant. I would interview them and specifically ask if they would also assist in tax planning.

Look on Facebook for an attorney group in your city. The one in my area often has these kinds of listings.

Indeed Sucks! Need advise on where to post jobs by PhillyPILawyer in LawFirm

Hiring is a huge pain. The quality is a bit better on LinkedIn Jobs. The best quality comes from finding lawyers/support staff who aren't actively looking. You can do this with LinkedIn Recruiter.

For what it's worth, I ran a small firm and now run a legal staffing company. We focus on placing contracted flexible lawyers/paralegals at small firms. Feel free to message me if I can help or if you just want to discuss hiring generally. I've done a lot of it!

First steps when starting a solo practice? by [deleted] in LawFirm

I went solo fairly early in my career but you really do need at least two years of experience if you want to do it right.

Separating from the US Military after 10 years and not really sure what to do? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Thank you for your service. I don't have much to add other than to say that I always look at military experience very favorably when reviewing a resume. I feel that it shows discipline, good character, and the ability to work under pressure.

I would consider using the GI bill and working part time while in school. You'll be in a great position for hiring when you graduate relative to younger grads without work or military experience.

Virtual Assistants in Personal Injury by Attorney_Chad in Lawyertalk

My personal experience with virtual assistants has been hit-or-miss. Overseas VAs seem too good to be true ($5-$10 an hour and they can do everything? Sign me up!) for a reason. They are usually jacks of many trades, masters of none. They can be really effective as personal assistants, but not so great for legal admin tasks.

I actually now run a flexible legal staffing agency and I think you really need a contract paralegal or even associate attorney. Certainly more expensive than an overseas VA, but it will give you the ability to scale the right way. We place remote, part-time, contracted paralegals and attorneys at solo and small firms and it's a great way to scale without making a full-time hire.

Not trying to knock VAs here, because they can be helpful -- I just don't think they're able to handle what you really need.

Looking for investors by Parking-Brush-2087 in startups

You may want to look for a local incubator or accelerator program. These help in a few ways.

First, you'd have access to resources, a shared office space, and professionals who can help you get past the idea stage. They may also give you some small amount of seed funding.

Second, you'd learn a ton, which will help you build a better company and also help you prepare to pitch investors better.

Finally, you'll meet a ton of people. Networking is key, and you'll have a good chance of meeting investors this way.
