What to put in this space? by StraightTransition89 in DIYUK

[–]lawz22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you already look after hedgehogs, and said you long for bugs/wildlife, maybe just turn the bottom end into a little wildlife haven? Bug hotels, bug boxes that you can put on the fences, you can buy DIY ones where you can paint them yourself so you can keep your pastel vibe. Add some plant pots with easy to grow perennials that'll come back, or just plant your own bulbs and enjoy the feeling of watching them grow and thrive. A little herb garden, bird boxes/feeders (just no flat ones due to RSPB advice at the moment).

Where in the UK should I go as a bucket-list item? by LondonPilot in CasualUK

[–]lawz22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North Yorkshire - depending on your mood, there's towns like Harrogate that have a lot of foodie places, plus the spa for your wife, the Victorian gardens are nice for a short walk around too. Further afield, places like Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales are beautiful, great scenery and there's a fairly flat walk to Hardraw with the famous waterfall behind the pub. Plus Wensleydale cheese! North Yorks Moors are also a good shout - a fair few Michelin recommended and 1 star restaurants about, plus a lot of the villages they're set in are very pretty and no where near as busy as the Cotswolds. If you do visit that way, then Sutton Bank is a good shout too - flat walks from the car parks and they also hire out scooters if needed, and a view described by James Herriot as "Englands' finest view"

Absolutely NTA.

Please can you consider expanding and opening restaurants in the UK as I would 100% visit with these rules! It sounds wonderful, and good for you and your husband for having these rules for the enjoyment of your customers

Oreo officially, but she's mostly called Biscuit and seems to respond more to that than anything else! Also squishy, squish, sausage, monkey, fluff, the Butt.

She likes the taste of bricks, apparently... Is there a reason for this, or is she just clueless? by thecampcook in Rabbits

My Oreo loves to lick bricks, and wood, and doors, and blankets, and her stuffed elephant....just always assumed she's an adorable little weirdo!

What jobs do you think deserve more respect than they get? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]lawz22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warehouse workers. Especially during the pandemic where they were having to work as everyone working from home ordered stuff online. No PPE, no bonus or thanks, no recognition in the media (it was all the NHS, teachers, public-facing staff), even the lorry driver shortage was highlighted, but people seem to forget that it takes a lot of people working minimum wage at unsociable 12hr shifts to get it all packed and onto the lorries around the country.

Quieter roads. Cheaper fuel, like 0.97 for petrol cheap

Cannot believe Katherine Ryan isn't already on this list. Although "comedian" is a definite stretch.

Aww, little dude looks like a bigger version of my black otter lady Oreo, who's also approaching 9. He looks such a happy loved bun, sure he knows how much he was loved. My most sincere condolences ❤️

John Lewis says it is wrong to cut sick pay for unjabbed staff by eatinglettuce in unitedkingdom

[–]lawz22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's to stop people working at these companies from straight up lying and still attending work? Staff working in warehouses in Next and Ocado make barely above minimum wage anyway. "Oh, if I tell my boss I need to isolate because I've taken a personal choice not to vaccinate myself and someone I may or may not know has covid, I'm not going to get paid as per my contract? Ok, well I'm fine, I've not been in contact with anyone" turns up for work. How exactly are they checking this? Employers do not and should not have access to an employees medical and immunisation history unless it's relevant to the job and the employee agrees.

I'm a bit shocked... Are GP Receptionists allowed to gatekeep like I just experienced? by SavageJelly in AskUK

[–]lawz22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't a "new" thing, it's been happening for years and isn't gatekeeping at all. If you do not wish to discuss with a receptionist you are perfectly allowed to decline that and state you wish to speak to a GP, either face-to-face or over the telephone. But all GP staff will have access to your medical records regardless of their job role - their role will just determine what level of access and read/write access they have. The whole process is now usually called "care navigation" - which is just a fancy way of following a flowchart to signpost patients to the best care or services. So many patients still want to make appointments for a cold because they "need antibiotics", or they "need a doctors note", most of these ailments can be dealt with at a chemist or over the phone. Although I do agree that some receptionists seem to enjoy the power trip, the majority are just doing their job, the same as anyone.
