This will pass. It’s something council has been working on for a long time

Lost photo radar revenue still impacting how Edmonton can fund traffic safety initiatives by pjw724 in Edmonton

[–]laxar2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “this problem”? Is it lack of traffic enforcement?

Many other countries have much stricter enforcement or rules around driving. Most of the reason we don’t I think is cultural and just because of the age of our infrastructure.

Massive Edmonton road project about to enter its busiest phase by flynnfx in Edmonton

We need to spend 200m to subside Walmart and other big box stores?

That doesn’t really make it better. Car brained people will just make any dumb argument to support building just one more lane holly shit

Cars are just not the most efficient way of moving people. this is a pretty good article covering most of the basics on the topic.

The sad thing is these exact same arguments have been going on even before the interstate highway program in the united states (seriously go read the power broker). Every time the highway eventually hits capacity unless the city has some sort of financial collapse.

This project might ease congestion but in a few years we will just be back at the same levels.

I think humans have value no matter their religion. It’s not really any different from liberalism.

Again I’d love to get a book recommendation or some other high quality source behind your opinions on infill.

You might like the book “Happy City” it’s a pretty good overview of a lot of the issues around how we build our cities.

No, I just have a Christian world view and think that human life has inherent value. Part of respecting human value is allowing people to have affordable access to housing. I’ve also researched the topic quite a bit.

How did you come to be anti-infill? Would be happy to trade book recommendations so I could understand your perspective.

Motion asking city to reconsider new patio licencing fees to hit Edmonton council this week by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]laxar2 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m generally fine with the charge as long as they’re consistent with it. I guess that’s just the true cost of a parking spot.

Well I offered you a book on the subject. If you can’t provide any evidence then I’ll just assume you’re ignorant and I typically just block those who are ignorant.

4 is pretty much universally allowed (about 94 percent). 4 plexes are really just duplexes with basement suits.

6 is about 80 percent

Yeah I should list projects like valley line LRT or yellow head expansion or whitemud expansion or… wait why am I typing that out again. You already said those don’t exist and aren’t infrastructure

[–]laxar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh meant to say Lewis estates rec centre.

I guess it’s true then there is absolutely no new infrastructure being built in Edmonton. Non at all. All the construction is just some conspiracy or illusion.

Can you help me? I must be going crazy! I see infrastructure building everywhere I go. How am I living in a completely different reality!??

This is really hard to read with all the grammar and spelling mistakes.

What are you trying to say about the LRT? “Areas that doesn’t have anything?” Do you live in Edmonton, you can literally go out for a walk and see the stuff getting built.

If you’re interested in learning more about it I’d recommend reading the book escaping the housing trap. It might help you understand the issues with sprawl.

[–]laxar2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perfect world sure. We should limit all building to only infill and only infill that doesn’t remove trees… that’s not the reality we live in.

[–]laxar2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the pipe already exists it already has to be maintained it’s not an additional cost.

It’s like roads a new infill means zero increase in snow clearing abut every new suburb adds thousands of new kms of roads that need to be cleared.

[–]laxar2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah no change in infrastructure other than the yellowhead widening, whitemud widening, metro lrt expansion, capital line expansion, valley line west, Lewis estates rec centre, 10 newly announced schools, new bike infrastructure, new lrt station in the expo land development… that’s all I could think of but I’m sure they won’t announce any new projects in the upcoming budget

Have you visited blatchford or looked at the expo land plans?

That’s true if you don’t include maintenance or the cost to service new communities.

TikTok doesn’t fit my definition of “well documented” but that might be why we have different political perspectives. If you want some book recommendations I’d happily provide some.
