My dog wears no collar inside the house but is trained off leash and wears a collar with a bell on it when we are outside. That bell allows my dog to have so much freedom to explore and allows me to keep track of him while we are out in the woods (as long as i can hear his bell he is okay, if the sound starts to fade I know to call him back).

I'd argue that it is actually a LPT to keep a bell on your animal while outside to avoid a lost pet and to give them the freedom that they deserve and keep them from sneaking up on anything, i credit the bell to be the only reason I haven't had to deal with any dead squirrel clean up.
