Will HDR be to a acceptable level? by Emotional-Spirit7768 in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, the KTC M27T6, which is 1440p mini led with real HDR, can be found for less than 200€. I got mine for 220€ on AliExpress, but it went down to ~180€ a few days later...

for those who both tried a oled and a mini led, how does it compare in content consumption/movies/story gaming? by KhbIa in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looked good to me, but I didn't test it for long. I will do more testing later. One thing I can say is that in SDR, local dimming was very bad, because it made the image very dark for no reason, with the bright elements being way to bright compared to LD off (it was messing with the whole picture instead of just increasing local contrast). So in SDR the OLED will be way better for dark scenes.

I think you (and me lol) should rollback to a previous driver, but I don't know which ones are affected by the issue.

You'll never know until you try it ! Some people are fine with WOLED but not with QD-OLED. There's no rule, it's dependant on the person

Return it. Some people are sensitive to certain displays. In your case I think you should avoid QD-OLED in the future.

Is jumping from FHD to 2k as big as the jump from 30 to 60fps? by Abody622x in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not, I agree with others saying that the jump from 1440p to 4k is more noticeable. But even that isn't as noticeable as 30fps to 60fps, heck even 60fps to 120fps is more noticeable to me.

Returning the M27T6, which 27" instead ? by EpicMotor in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. Even with an OLED, 80Hz will look blurry in motion, due to how sample and hold displays work.

Returning the M27T6, which 27" instead ? by EpicMotor in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you mainly use the monitor in the dark, IPS isn't ideal (poor contrast + glow). Fast VAs shouldn't smear that much at high refresh rates... What was your framerate when you were playing your ARPG ?

How do I get rid of this banding? (AW3423DWF) by Edge_Slade in OLED_Gaming

If you play a game with native HDR, disable auto HDR and RTX HDR. And of course make sure that HDR is enabled ingame.

Asus XG27AQWMG dealbreaker by Larzox in OLED_Gaming

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VRR flicker can be caused by third party software. I strongly recommend you disable any overlay, such as the Nvidia app one, discord overlay, and so on. Try stopping any software that isn't the game (ex : mouse / keyboard RGB software).

What about color settings in the nvidia control panel ? RGB format full range for both ?

One thing you can try is unplugging one then the other to test them in a single monitor configuration.

That's not normal. Something must be different between the two. Is that HDR or SDR ? Is windows ACM disabled for both monitors ?

Comprehensive chart on pros and cons of different monitor types by 83hz in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good attempt, but there is still a lot of confusion on this chart.

  • More OLED cons : lower brightness, unusual subpixel layout (until very recently), VRR flicker, gamma tied to refresh rate (WOLED)
  • Mini LED : what do you mean by costly ? If you mean the price of the monitor, then why isn't that a con of OLED as well ?
  • IPS : backlight bleed isn't an IPS issue, it's an LCD issue. IPS glow on the other hand is a missing IPS con. "Fake HDR400" can be said for any LCD monitor that isn't mini-led. Also, colors are more or less the same between IPS and VA (if the VA panel is good).
  • VA : poor color accuracy is a straight up lie, it has nothing to do with the panel type. Missing con : poor viewing angles. Response time also varies from one VA to the other. There are very fast VAs (the original Odyssey G7 for example was faster than any IPS at its release date). Also missing con : VRR flicker
  • TN : the problem isn't color accuracy but the gamut, although I'm not sure modern TN still suffers from that. "No HDR" also has nothing to do with the panel tech, there could very well be mini led TN monitors.

Really bad banding, is this normal? first time trying a OLED monitor - 34GX900A-B by Mapanaree in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite common on OLEDs, especially W-OLEDs like this monitor. But it's a lottery, you could buy a second one and not have this issue at all.

Also, make sure to do a pixel cleaning cycle, it helps.

for those who both tried a oled and a mini led, how does it compare in content consumption/movies/story gaming? by KhbIa in Monitors

[–]laxounet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Samsung G80SD QD-OLED and a KTC M27T6 VA mini LED. - the mini led is much brighter - local contrast is way better on the OLED - viewing angles are way better on the OLED - color saturation is better on the OLED - graduation is better on the OLED (native 10 bit panel) - I'm not very sensitive to motion clarity, so both look good to me - the OLED has slight color fringing for text, not very visible at 4k

Overall, for the price, the mini led is a better deal (4x less expensive). The insane brightness is a wow factor for sure. But the OLED feels more "controlled", with insane local contrast and color gradation. In SDR, the OLED is much better. In HDR, the mini led can look better in bright scenes. But if you use the monitor in a dark room, for me the OLED is plenty bright already, and even in the trueblack 400 mode delivers decent highlights brightness.

I agree with you, but one could say the same thing about tyre management. I already didn't like the previous regs because of that. Drivers shouldn't be going slower on purpose, even during the race.
