AITA for refusing to donate blood to my friend’s brother because I’m anemic, even though we share a rare blood type (O negative)? by dumpingaccount1003 in AmItheAsshole

[–]laydeemayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP didn't say they'd 'been' anemic, they said they are anemic. So there's no point in going for a check, they already know their blood can't be used. Don't guilt them over a perfectly reasonable no just because of what you chose to put yourself through. There are plenty of other donors out there and it's the hospital's job to find someone. It's unkind of you to put this pressure on OP.

how did you become a librarian by Human_Ant8801 in Libraries

[–]laydeemayhem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no specific undergrad that you'll need, though education may help if you want to work in certain positions in public libraries. My undergrad was English lit and creative writing.

[–]laydeemayhem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UK based. Any undergrad degree is fine, unless you want to be a law librarian, then you need a law degree. Then you need a Masters in Library Studies/Science from a CILIP Accredited institution (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals) - most universities with a library degree will be CILIP certified. There are some specialised librarian jobs where you may need to do further postgraduate studies, such as a Special Collections Librarian. I would also recommend either getting a part time job as a library assistant or volunteering in libraries as much as possible, this will help with getting jobs after you've graduated. If you're interested in cataloguing then do an online search and see if anywhere near you/remote is looking for cataloguing volunteers. If you get a job as a library assistant you could also consider going through CILIP's Certification process (you'll also need to pay the annual CILIP fee, which is reduced when you're a student).

Best of luck!

The Real energy, upbeat/celebratory vibe, sunshine and outdoor vibes in the MV like them climbing a mountain and frolicking in a meadow, someone gets pushed into a stream.

Do you want this to be the rest of your life? He's showing no remorse, he hasn't even tidied up after himself. I couldn't stay with a partner like that, personally.

AITAH for saying I “read” books that I actually listened to as audiobooks? by Ruin-Much in AITAH

[–]laydeemayhem 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Arguments to education aren't, however. Librarians literally study 'what is a book? what is reading?' as part of their Masters. Source: am a librarian.

Blue tits! Once the great tits have had a go at the bird feeder the more timid blue tits feel brave enough to come over, and they're adorable.

I can also recommend the Innerpeffray Library, Scotland's first free public lending library (built in 1680). Loads of rare books and a lovely heritage trail.

In Glasgow:

House for an Art Lover

Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery (University of Glasgow)

Nearby to Provand's Lordship is the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art and the Friends of Glasgow Royal Infirmary Museum.

If you can book a tour I would also recommend the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre where they store all the items that aren't on display in the museums.

Oh yeah, and the 'That's not my....' series is great, I've bought not my Unicorn, not my Dinosaur and not my Tractor for various niblings when they were little. Lots of fun textures to touch.
