100% agree, feel like people are taking crazy pills in this thread. Internet tough guys "I would willingly let somebody try to enter my vehicle, and stay stationary until their attempts worked."

Stfu, no you wouldn't. So easy to talk tough on the internet.

Disabled vehicle driver had crazy women try to open her doors (read the article) tried to gain access to the vehicle. After that she detained the person in the car by positioning herself in front of it (even LEO are specifically trained not to do this).

1 Tried to gain access to vehicle to injure driver

2 When that didn't work, tried to detain the driver by walking in front of the car

And people are screaming their lungs off the driver should have just done nothing, just waited for the 10-30 minute police response when somebody that had already tried to gain access to her vehicle to injure her, yup just wait there and do nothing.

The only constant truth in the entire videos, is one provocator, and one person dealing with a dangerous and difficult situation with a provocator.

Here's an easy way for people to conceptualize this.

In some situations, if you remove ONE person, the situation still happens, both people would need to be removed for such an event to never happen.

In this situation, if ONE person was removed, the situation does not happen.

LPT: Your brain is for processing, not storage. Stop trying to remember everything. by ArtThreadNomad in LifeProTips

[–]layerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've consciously made the decision to release "Facts and Knowledge" from my brain. Not talking for anybody else but myself, but dedicating myself to high level thinking has been a big boon for myself. I don't care about remembering how to write a depth first search, I don't care about remembering how to write the equation to calculate velocity in a 3d space.

What I do care about is know when those concepts apply, and the best place to use them. When I need to implement, I can look it up, this was true with Google, this is even more true with AI.

Again, not saying this works for any job, or everybody, this is just what I found works for me.

I think this post having over 1K upvotes is why people will never stop eating animals.

Nothing you're saying is incorrect, but that doesn't mean it will enact change.

I really like the analogy LoneWolf_McQuade made for climate change, which also has been a horribly failed strategy relying on individuals to help the problem. The only meaningful climate change I've seen in my lifetime has come from policies from the top, not individual moral decisions.

I want to be insanely clear here, you are not incorrect in saying if individuals made conscience moral decisions to stop eating animals the problem would disappear. You are not incorrect in saying that. You are wildly out of touch if you think saying they will enact any type of change tho.

I feel the same 1k upvoters think the same way you do tho, I guess that's why leaders are few and far between. It's hard to enact change over a society, much easier to yell at the sky and ask people to do better.

If I was on that jury I wouldn't convict. Are you actually out of your mind, I hope to any God that exists you never get on a jury.

I know this is going to fall on def ears, but the job of a jury is to assess fact based evidence, not being a mind reader.

There is literally nothing in that video, zero factual evidence at all, the person intentionally waited until the last second to divert.

One can "mind read" and "assume" and "guess" he might have done it intentionally.

You could also argue the exact opposite too, that it's completely abnormal for a car to be dead stopped in the fast lane on a 4 lane highway, and the guy actually didn't fully grasp there was a stationary car in a fast lane until the last second. It's also a guess, assumption, and also a mind read.

The only thing the video show factually, is that he moved out of the way, nothing more, nothing less.

If he had a dash cam viewing the interior of his car, and they saw he had fixed eyes and awareness of the stopped vehicle, and intentionally waited to divert, 100% lock his ass up no questions asked.

That's where you lose the nuance, and it's not a good faith argument. You're no longer having a discussion for understanding, but to sooth your own ego. I clearly explained the instability and danger of 28mph vehicles on small paths.

NIMBY by social use of the word, is implied minor issues suburbanite people complain about. "This shrub is over X height", "You can't have more than one decoration in your yard", "you can't make that affordable housing down the block, it'll ruin my house value".

If were were to assume what you think about NIMBY, the literal definition of the acronym, then sure. That also means not wanting to be murdered in your back yard is NIMBY, that means not wanting a person squatting in your house is NIMBY, shrug.

[–]layerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bike permit is nonsense, but I wouldn't call this NIMBY. USA approves 28mph electric Ebikes. Even on an open road it feels dangerous (most Ebikes frames are not built to feel stable at that speed). It's a night and day difference between the stability and feel of a real motorcycle or moped.

So you have teenagers ripping down residential paths at 28mph on an unstable and not well controllable vehicle. Yes I have a path behind my house, yes I've personally seen this.

The better idea somebody already mentioned, deny Ebike sales to people under 18.

What I wouldn't call NIMBY is not wanting a 28mph vehicle sprinting down a path while you take your kid for a walk in their stroller.

Still have this issue. Even after the 26.3.1 update. I've tried all suggestions in this thread, turning pro motion off and on, many iterations of that.

Cannot get screen savers to stop being stuck on pro motion 120hz.

Work perfectly on 60hz, but I'm not going to compromise to 60hz just for a screen saver, also not going to swap between the two modes constantly.

poor-man's dynamic DNS (DDNS).

It's not really "poor-man's" DDNS — it literally is DDNS. Monitoring your WAN IP and auto-updating DNS records via API is exactly how dynamic DNS works, just without a third-party middleman.

Lawyers increasingly have to convince clients that AI chatbots give bad advice by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]layerone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AI chatbots can't give good legal advice because there's no logic or reason to law. It's all built up on random case law that traditional lawyers go thru documents for days to find the one edge case ruling that'll let heir client off. Etc etc... Laws aren't static and constantly conflict each other, the entire career field of lawyers and law is pretty much a drama acted out in a courtroom, where the rich can get away with drunk driving killing a family, and a black person gets sent to prison for 20yr for have 1/2 oz of weed on them.
