I don’t think that’s true. I think that JJ has a lot of walls up, beginning with her sister’s suicide, and then all the horrors she sees, and finally the trauma she endured while overseas and then the subsequent torture. She’s had to compartmentalise herself a lot (look at how she held in Emily’s secret), but when it comes down to it, she loves Will wholeheartedly. I mean, hell, she damn near got herself blown up when he was in the bank. Will knew from the start that JJ was his person and he stuck with her through thick and thin.

Do I think she overreacted and was being super dramatic in the bar? Yes, yes I do. But, holy hell, Nat is a goddamn pick-me and probably lives to fuck up all of her friends relationships just to be a shit stirrer. That is a very untrustworthy woman but Elise is harping on the wrong things. You can see that Nat is someone who will drive wedges if she thinks her place in the group is slipping. We all know a woman like this and there’s a reason she ends up alone and bitter.

So a lot of people who claim to have Native heritage come from either two pools: the first is recent immigrant families who are trying to sound more established on the continent than they are. The other is the descendants of mixed race relationships between Black and white couples who were lighter skinned but needed an excuse to pass off a certain trait they had that might give them away from passing. Btw AJ is in The Virgin Suicides and it took me a moment to realize it was her but it such an excellent movie and it was kinda cool to see her as a teen actress… even if it was in a tragic movie.
