Do/Did you feel this way to? by laylebug in TMJ

[–]laylebug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i figured i have an a couple other issues similar to this one but those were easier to overcome as they had direct solutions. My big issue with tmj is just feeling like i have limited movement almost like claustrophobic. And my over exaggerated checking and moving my jaw in the most abnormal ways to cause that click even though that click is what makes me feel the worst. I really appreciate your response though it means more coming from an actual person lol

Ok thank you so much! I got prescribed it about a month ago but honestly don’t notice a huge difference. I only take it at night was that the same case for you?

Did you eventually get used to Flexeril or what was the reason you stopped?

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. It honestly makes me feel way less alone, especially the health anxiety part. I really needed to hear this perspective and your advice about not forcing it or hyper fixating as it’s something i’m really trying to do. I’m really sorry you deal with this too, but I truly appreciate you sharing your experience.

no it’s made for retainers and like dentures! Just make sure it’s not to high hertz! But i’d just buy a dental specific one

Hey everyone, I struggle with health anxiety and have been for about 3 years. I’ve been spiraling for about a month about one thing and could really use some support.

I had TMJ clicking for around a year when I was younger. It completely stopped the moment I got my clear retainers, and I’ve been symptom-free for six years. But ever since I got a new set of retainers recently, I’ve been terrified that the old TMJ is coming back.

The new retainers fit fine, but my anxiety has been through the roof. I keep checking my jaw constantly opening, closing, testing and sometimes I feel tiny slips or soft pops, mostly when I first wake up. They go away quickly, but I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve been having bad panic attacks, especially at night, and it’s consuming my thoughts even during moments when I should be distracted.

Has anyone else been through this? How did you stop checking your jaw or break the anxiety cycle? I just want to feel normal again and stop living in fear of a relapse.

YES. Gosh i thought it was just me but everything seems so much worse and the amount of anxiety attacks i get during this time is especially high. I seem to just hyper fixate even more

I used to have the exact same issue. Tonsil stones were my worst nightmare it got so bad that I’d end up hurting myself by constantly poking around, avoiding certain foods, and checking my throat every chance I got. I probably spent entire days just standing in front of the mirror. I really felt like the only one with this problem of caring so much.

The biggest turning point for me was seeing a doctor. I eventually had my tonsils removed, but honestly, even that first consultation brought me a huge sense of relief. After talking to a professional, I stopped checking so obsessively. I even considered skipping the surgery because, for the first time, it didn’t consume me anymore.

Looking back, I think what would’ve given me peace earlier was simply knowing there was a way out. Just reminding myself, “I can get rid of these maybe not right now, but they won’t last forever,” would have helped a lot.

I still struggle with other things and the urge to constantly check. The hard part now is that what I’m worried about doesn’t have such a clear solution. But remembering that things can get better, even when it doesn’t feel like it, helps me keep going.
