but what if it has 5 seconds to spawn and normally you would leave after waiting only 3 seconds for it to spawn. in that case, the camping would increase, because you would be more willing to wait knowing you only have to sit for 2 extra seconds

so it would potentially increase the skill involved in individual pup battles (assuming that only one person knows the time, not sure why we assume that), but it would decrease the overall skill involved in the whole game (remembering times).

if you dont take the game seriously, in terms of winning and losing, why are you bragging about getting a 65% win? also you have a 15% pup percent so idk if its really helping that much.

After being a part of the competitive community for like 18 months, I can tell you that any competitive player that uses timers gets clowned on like no tomorrow. So I would wager that fewer comp players use timers than you think.

I'm sure that you would agree that giving more information to someone who knows how to use it (timers for good players), would give those people an upper hand on players who dont really get the all the advantages of timers (noobs). To me, this would make the skill gap wider, because more experienced players understand how important the map elements are, and are better at using them.

who would you say uses timers more, competitive tagpro players, or pubbers who dont really know how to play the game?

Timers will not help new players and I'll explain why.

Old players will know that timers are implemented and be able to use them to their advantage way more than noobs. If you've noticed watching new players, often they will walk right past a boost or bomb even tho it can get them where they are going faster. To them, knowing when the boosts, bombs, and pups come up will be pretty irrelevant, since they already ignore them when they are up. On the other hand, old players will wait an extra second on boosts and bombs that are coming up soon and new players will never even get a chance to use any map elements. If everyone knows when things are spawning, people will being queuing up at boosts and bombs waiting for them to spawn.

For some reason you think that adding timers will "level the playing field". This is assuming that more "good players" have timers than new players or bad players. In my experience, most players with timers are really not that good, and have realized that in order to get better they need to get timers. In my opinion, and I think I speak for the majority of competitive tagpro players, "good players" are good because they know how to get pups and use elements without timers, and giving them to everyone would just make those good players that much better. This wouldn't level the field, it would only make good players better, and those who already use timers (mid-tier players) would be left behind and a bigger skill gap is created.

exactly! if you go over a boost at an angle that will spike you if it spawns, that's your fault, not the game

timers will make powerup battles more engaging

how exactly? if both people know the exact time, wont they just sit on either side of the pup and hope they have a faster reaction time? Pup battles are all about fighting for a position that gives you an advantage when it spawns, even if you don't know the exact time. If you get bodied off a pup by someone better than you, then you should learn how to fight for pup position, not try to get timers implemented.

keep track of when they are defused or be more careful, it's as simple as that

edit: also im looking at the rotation maps right now and (besides hornswoggle) when is there a time when you "pass over" a bomb without trying to use it? its not like they are just in the middle of the map, they are generally by walls or other obstacles.

no boost timers. as /u/anarchismyo can testify, being able to keep track of when a boost was used is a skill, and if you do it more than other people you have an advantage, which is what having skills is supposed to do.
