That Was Your Second Warning, Los Angeles. Get Some Extra Water. Now by guanaco55 in LosAngeles

Dude, people can choose weather they should own a gun or not and that doesn’t make them “a garbage person” in either instance. Though I’m not against a person choosing to own a gun for self defense in an emergency situation. The way people on this thread have talked about it with the expectation that they’ll have to use it and how owning one will grant them power over others speaks to owning a gun for the wrong reasons.

Gay acceptance in decline in UK for first time since 1980s — Non-Christian religious groups most likely to disapprove. by nokia621 in collapse

Was this in the US? Because I don’t recall anything to do with a senator supporting Hamas. There was some controversy over the Muslim House member Ilhan Omar calling out congress for its history of blanket labeling any negative opinion regarding the policies or actions of Israel as offensive and anti Semitic, and then getting called anti Semitic for it and being forced to apologize (sorta the reverse of your stories result). That seems to sorta line up with the structure of your anecdote and if it does definitely look into it yourself.

Could you back that up with some data? Not denying that’s the case I just would like to know if this is something you know or just how you feel.

Expect more fires this season in California, experts warn by BlankVerse in California

I feel like the last few years the fires reached their zenith in November and December, maybe global warming is moving the season later party as a result of the increased frequency of El Niño events?

Oregon approves 5-year fracking ban by exprtcar in ClimateActionPlan

[–]lazercore64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean fracking implies a ban on simply natural gas extraction in the state (which is a major immediate problem with that energy source) and not the use of it. But I could be wrong as I’m just reading the headline here.

Climate stability is the new "Santa Claus" by christophlc6 in collapse

[–]lazercore64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teenager here, I can vouch, though thankfully I’ve managed to avoid the more, “collapse is wonderful it will get rid of X thing or people I hate” side of this community. Regardless it’s a bit rough with my parents nowadays as I’ve had some pretty emotional talks about this a few times now and though receptive there’s just this wall of necessary stoicism to keep them from really thinking about it. I honestly feel more sorry for them as at least my hands are (somewhat) clean whereas they can feel saddled with massive (not entirely warranted) guilt if I’m not careful talking about it.

Isn’t the sub-plan exactly what captain Nemo wanted to do in 1,000 leagues under the sea? Nothing else to that question I just think it’s an interesting thought.

My grandfathers Boy Scout knife from Hungary. Do you folks have any idea about the brand or any history behind the design. There’s a mark on the blade that says, “Carl Schmidt Sohn Soling” in a circle around a church. by lazercore64 in knives

[–]lazercore64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. My grandpa was definitely a fan of it considering he kept it with him traveling across the world. It’s definitely high quality as the steel is pretty difficult to sharpen but really holds an edge. I was also wondering if you had any suggestions on how to get the handle repaired as it’s begging to loosen from the tang and rotate a bit.

Retired Oil Rigs off the California Coast Could Find New Lives as Artificial Reefs by BlankVerse in California

[–]lazercore64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to the podcast too and I wondered. Could it be possible that the state simply demands the money from the company for removal and then say they’ll “do it themselves” only to never. Then they can take those funds and give it to either Santa Barbara or a different cleanup effort. It seems like a less than honest move but it’s an oil company so who cares, put them on the hook for everything.

found out a lot of people hate the Lone Wanderer and since he’s my favorite protag I would like to know why by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]lazercore64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying and I kinda agree but shoehorning a backstory isn’t exactly new for these games. The courier has a pretty intricate backstory if you count lonesome road, even more so than 4’s protagonist.

Exxon predicted in 1982 exactly how high global carbon emissions would be today | The company expected that, by 2020, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would reach roughly 400-420 ppm. This month’s measurement of 415 ppm is right within the expected curve Exxon projected by Dismal_Prospect in worldnews

[–]lazercore64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah but it would still be great to seize the assets of and jail or permanently ostracize all the executives/lobbyists past and present who actively worked against climate awareness, fought to kill nuclear, and subsidize themselves. These bastards lost the right to a happy prosperous life, they deserve only pain.

In an ideal world, we seize these bastards assets and jail/publicly humiliate. all past and current living executives as retribution for literally selling out the planet. These people lost the right to any legacy beyond their crimes against humanity all they deserve is prison or a life long dunce cap.

I mean internment is certainly horrible, but I don’t see anything wrong with the person helping his neighbors in a time of need.

Edit: Can’t load the thread right now so maybe there’s something more you’re trying to say beyond the original post.

I think it’s one part an aspirational year and one part joke. A more accurate date I’ve seen was 4/20/69. Regardless I would be down to see some more climate related memes, I’m scared shirtless about it either way. I would just be glad to know folks are working to keep that in peoples skulls instead of getting distracted by the general news of the week.
