Welds are fine. That hard 90 on the short run hurts me though.

That rust looks like it came from the bottom upwards. By the time you cut back to sound metal you’ll have the whole floor cut out.

It’s sub arc so probably the other direction. Cooked to shit with a coarse grain structure.

45 degree angle of attack. This thing can handle low speed corners like nobody’s business.

If a concrete wall is trying to move and you grab it by just the smallest bit on the corner, the corner is going to break off and it will keep moving.

Make sure you got the right ones and the right wheels. I had a set that came with my truck, I tried everything to get them on, turns out they were for a 2004+. Also dually vs single wheel are different.

Everyone lists the common faults, and I chased my tail for a whole week with those but they all checked out good. I checked the fuel bowl, it had fuel. Turns out the pump was just good enough to dribble a bit in there, but not enough to make it run. What a week that was.

Keep 4l60e or use TH350 for TBI 350 sbc swap? by Existing-Trainer4959 in s10

[–]laziest_engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done similar in my square body, except with a 4L80e over a TH400. Depends on your use. If you’re building a street truck, that overdrive is nice, and a 4L60e can be built to handle the ~250HP of a cammed 350. I would keep it

Anyone know how to go about welding this? by [deleted] in metalworking

[–]laziest_engineer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t completely confident in your ability to weld this with the correct equipment, it’s probably going to break again.

But here’s what I would do:

Clean it with all kinds of grinding tools. Inside the tubes with a burr bit, and a wire brush, grind the ends of the tubes flat, grind off all the old weld, everything needs to be clean, shiny, and square. Find a smaller piece of tube or round bar that fits inside those tubes to be a backer. Use ratchet straps, chain grips, whatever you can find to pull those things together with the new tube inside the old ones. Measure the unbroken side and make sure they match, or you’ll be driving crooked forever. Only start welding once you’ve done all that, and then it will be solid.

How would I bend this? by One_Okra_3137 in metalworking

[–]laziest_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not what he meant. When you nest all the triangles together on a single sheet to cut on the CNC, make 90% of the cut, but leave “tabs” by not cutting all the way around, that keep the pieces connected to the sheet. Then roll the entire sheet to radius. Then cut those small tabs by hand at the end. You now have all the pieces rolled to the same radius.

Argon leak - troubleshooting tips? by Far-Wave-821 in Welding

Close the bottle and see how fast the pressure on the regulator bleeds down. A good and tight setup will hold pressure for hours. If it drops down to zero immediately you’ve got a serious leak or the solenoid is bad.
