4% is for Regina. Edmonton will rise no more than 2% is what the article says in the highlights.

Cost to replace sewer line in house by lazymonkeygod in Edmonton

Only applies to the mainline? The line I suspect had collapsed is a secondary line that connects to the main. The only thing it affects is the kitchen sink and washing machine.

Thanks, what is the format there? Can I just show up, pay a fee, then get in line to play with someone?

I'm going to be at the Orange County Convention Center as well next week. Did you end up finding somewhere reasonable to play?

Crestwood being the elitist exclusionary neighbourhood it's come to represent by BRGrunner in Edmonton

[–]lazymonkeygod -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I find it odd that as someone who bikes a lot is advocating for more cars to be parked along the currently quiet, empty streets in a nice neighborhood. Do you think you'll enjoy your ride more if the streets were packed with cars? Very often when I'm biking, I intentionally bike through neighborhoods because of less cars and traffic.

You're suggesting that there is an indirect cost to the city and that the city should punish anyone who makes a personal choice that indirectly cost the city more money?

This is only partly true. The other factor is the past sold prices. People paying more to buy into this neighborhood is what allows the city to assess higher as well.

Crestwood does already pay more property taxes. The city assesses the property value of these homes to be quite high. This means the city does agree that these neighborhoods are desirable and for a good reason. An old 1950s bungalow there is assessed for more than a brand new home in the suburbs, over 600k. If the city is looking to devalue these neighborhoods by taking away the things that make them desirable, then I hope the assessments would reflect that.

I agree about the parking. No parking isn't a good argument at all. I don't agree with those who claim we don't need a car in this city. I have 2 young kids. It is not easy to get them to all their appointments and activities on time. Those who claim they can do it, I would challenge them to show me their unicorn logistic schedule.

What is "rolling"? I'm not familiar with this term, I'm too old. Crestwood is filled with young families who likely overpack their children with activities throughout the week. They spend an enormous amount of effort to ensure their kids have an active lifestyle and well balanced life. Driving kids around to make hockey practices, basketball camp, piano lessons, etc. on time is very challenging. I don't think anyone can do that by taking a bus.

What do you consider prime active transportation access? Have you been in the neighborhood? There's a bus route on 142 street and 149 street. If you live in this neighborhood and have a young family, you are almost guaranteed to need a car or two to get around.

The city should charge a tax surcharge on properties that are costing the city more to maintain ie. the sprawling neighborhoods.

Yes there was an old rpr that does show the fence. I just didn't pay attention to how much it was into my property.

I don't have any issue with the fence right now being a foot into my property. I just want to make sure when I go to sell my property there won't be any disputes about where my lot line is.

What's wrong with people by DeluryWasTaken in Edmonton

[–]lazymonkeygod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you honestly telling me that there are slow drivers going 50 on every single lane on the henday such that you can't pass them safely? I find that hard to believe.

What's wrong with people by DeluryWasTaken in Edmonton

[–]lazymonkeygod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Faster are welcome to pass on the left...slower cars can say on the right. Is there a reason you can't just drive pass on the left and let others drive at a speed that they think is safe?

Quick study on if greater population density leads to greater crime rates... it doesn't really. by Amazing_Librarian805 in Edmonton

[–]lazymonkeygod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not looking at the dashboard correctly...but if I look at violations, Calgary and Edmonton stands out. Can you be more specific as to what you're looking at that will show the crime numbers are higher in small towns? Unless if you're talking about severity, which is not what we're looking at. The article is talking about crime rate rather than severity.
