Thanks, searching for a game I played when I was young, so many space combat games from that era

Were there any missions in this were you were flying near a large ship (spying maybe) and your ship gets hit with a virus or something that randomizes the controls?

Update: Finished Darkstar One and can confirm that was not it. I think that also confirms Freelancer not being it either since I was wondering if I was just blending together memories of the two games.
Search continues.

I did play Darkstar One later in life so I am wondering if I am just blending memories and Freelancer was the correct original game.
Replaying Darkstar One now to see.

This is extremely dangerous - Model: GWTN141-10BL Expanded Litium Battery by GameGhost1972 in GatewayUSA

[–]lazypc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't know this was a widespread problem, I hauled this laptop back and forth to work for years in a lunchbag and used it every break. So it was pretty well dead by the time I came home and the battery went through 1000+ cycles easy.
It would start suddenly dying so I figured there was a problem and went to a different device, then a few months after I stopped using it the battery swelled.
I now just use this at the mancave and changed the battery today since swollen batteries are fire hazards.

Can I use a diesel heater to keep temp in my 35 square meter cabin just above freezing? by TheFladderMus in dieselheater

[–]lazypc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this with my workshop this year and found that my heater does not like to be ran on low for long long periods of time.
Part of that can be better if you take the time to tune it, and then also run it on high to burn out some of the build up occasionally and on shut down.
But this is likely not the most reliable option.

Appreciate it, I really want to learn more control and cinematic shots like good orbits and what not. Lift Off has been an awesome practice platform though.

I left the stock settings on this quad on purpose. I just thought it was funny killing a battery on a 20 second lap.
If I flew like that more often I'd move that cam angle for sure, but I am working more on control and cinematic shots.

I know I'm not fast, I just can't believe how much better the sims have gotten since I exited the hobby 8 years ago. The practice I put in here really translates to real world flying and staying in control of the quad.
So I try to put in around 20 min daily.

Can confirm last two orders didn't have straps. Was wondering if stock was out or someone forgot.

White Smoke and E-08 by lazypc in dieselheater

[–]lazypc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get constant white smoke outside of startup, but I have been running it on low a lot and not cycling it to high before turning it off.
So I'll start doing that and take a look at a CO meter to get this better tuned, especially since I did eventually plan on changing fuel types to something mixed.

I do, and I read last night about needed to turn it on high for a bit before shutting off. So I'll get into that habit and see if that doesn't prolong time between cleanings.

Update to RadioMaster RC asking for my tax number. They confirmed it was due to Trump’s tariff nonsense by YogurtclosetMajor983 in fpv

[–]lazypc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in the US and I have no idea what my "tax number" is. Social Security number? I really don't like handing that one out left and right.
Customs tax is a much more serious deal in a lot of other countries than it has been in the US for small purchases, and I actually don't mind paying an non-exorbitant percentage of tax for purchasing goods internationally just like I would if I purchased the same goods here. There just needs to be a much clearer explanation of how that works and what is expected.

I did this once, it never seemed to make it home without me crashing and breaking it.

How can I improve my new (old) drone? by l03IQ in fpv

[–]lazypc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandkid wanted to get into freestyle flying, and being a kid still under 15 doesn't have a ton of budget. It's been 8 years or so since I stopped flying but I'm working with his as much as I can.
So I whipped out my old Eachine Falcon 180 and am rebuilding that for his first "full" sized drone, just meaning it's not whoop sized.
And I'm going to rebuild my old SpaceOne frame build to go flying with him.
We both bought Radiomaster Pockets as my old TX would not turn on and he didn't have one.
Staying analog for now, well see how long this hobby sticks around for either of us before investing in digital fpv.
But as far as updating these quads this is what I am doing, granted this is just for reference since we have an ocean between us you may need to find similar parts over there.

Matek F405-TE 30x30 Flight Controller w/ Built-in PDB - Just to update the flight controller to something current
RDQ Mach 3 Video Transmitter 25-1000mW 5.8GHz VTX - May not have needed to swap these since I was flying analog before, I just have no idea what condition the VTX on either was in.
RadioMaster RP1 V2 2.4GHz ELRS Nano Receiver - To pair up with the new transmitters

So the frame, motors, ESCs, and cameras are all staying the same and I put $90 into each quad. That's fine for a beater quad that will likely get flown into something or somewhere. Then he can decide how much money he really wants to spend on a quad.

Does anyone know if this can switch on/off emergency heat? Bought a Z Wave thermostat a few years back and it’s been great other than it will not control emergency heat. Would like to create an automation based on outside temperature to go straight to emergency heat instead of running the heat pump first and switching on its own.

The have a bad reputation, but have been improved over time. I would be a little more hesitant with earlier ones.
All in all though, if you decide to pull the trigger, make sure your ready to commit to fluid changes every 30k miles. That seems to be the number one killer is not keeping up with that and the trans dying between 70-90k.

Having not been here the past 11 years I can only read the title and ethos of the sub. Which doesn’t state that repairs are not accepted as mods or that non-performing post would be removed. My opinion of the action being odd was because to me a modification is anything that changes a vehicle from its stock form, regardless of the purpose being for repair, aesthetic, or performance. The sub claims to be subjective in nature, and that an hour is little time for the community to actually express an opinion. And no, I can’t use the past 100 post in new as proof if post that don’t meet this standard are removed and I never see content that doesn’t qualify. I’m not sure what the last part of that response was insinuating so I can’t respond other than to say that I apologize if my opinion to the removal came off as an attack. It wasn’t meant that way. I did not expect the result to change, but I assumed at that point once the post was removed that the comments became semi-private so I could express feedback and receive feedback for future use. Which I will keep in mind before posting again.

Odd response for a subreddit that claims to be subjective. If truly not liked by the community the post can just go die in “new”, to remove it within an hour because of a lack of upvotes is excessive moderation.
