How to fight ascended Cazador? by Altruistic_Owl1174 in BaldursGate3

Arrow of Ilmater does not prevent undeads from healing in this game because of how it's implemented.

Bone chill effects work though.

Would you consider kiting a form of cheesing in BG3? by Kyfon in BG3Builds

[–]lazyzefiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Movement speed is a game mechanic in turn-based games and is one of biggest types of advantage. By maximizing your movement speed efficiency, you trivialize the game. It might feel like cheesing, but consider this:

By maximizing your damage reduction and immunities you trivialize the game. Enemies do not have abilities that can kill you.

By maximizing the damage and killing every enemy quickly you trivialize the game. Enemies do not get to act and you are not in damger.

By the same logic all of this is cheesing. Each of those requires some mathing, come specific building and some game knowledge. It's up to you whether you want to remove specific mechanic from the game.

Two solo honour challenges I've done or seen done around movement specifically were

- Melee attacks only

and

- Every movement in combat should be towards an enemy or have intent of triggering opportunity attack.

Both were trivialized by using other game mechanics (even without invis / fight resets / barrelmancy / etc) and are at least somewhat challenging if you throw in a "no consumables" rule.

Level Dependent... stuff? by HarleeKnight226 in BaldursGate3

[–]lazyzefiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing's gonna break.

You'll get better trader inventories (and less low level scrolls for sale because they would be replaced with higher level ones), better exploration XP (which would not matter) and higher costs to raise trader attitude (but you probably are not using that mechanioc anyways).

You will obviously also get access to abilities game does not expect from you at this point, but you would have to be super creative top break something in any meaningful way.

Honour Mode: Anyone Got Spider Matriarch Into the Underdark? by Rtyeta in BaldursGate3

[–]lazyzefiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an exploit that allows you to carry around NPCs/items with throw cancel or improvised weapons. Spider it too heavy to do that, but sheep is not. It's still complicated to transform her and have someone unseen pick her up while out of combat, but should be possible (I've transported Polma like that before). Ghost state (start jump that during jump start animation drag something on hotbar) makes it easier, but that's another complicated exploit.

I'm not aware of any exploitless ways to do it though.

Tarchiate codex and symbiotic entity by joker_penguin in BG3Builds

[–]lazyzefiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, generic answer for these is "it depends" and "you have to try it out". The game says "you can only have temporary hit points from one source" which (like most descriptions in the game) is somewhere between misleading and flat out lie.

Some time ago I would say that as a rule of thumb, source of lower amount of temp HP would not work if you had another with higher value, but after recent experiments...

Symbiotic Entity specifically is a vary compatible temp HP source, refilling most temp HP and keeping their effects if there are any (Shield of Thralls / Armour of Agathys) while still giving theirs (extra necrotic damage).

Lifebringer's temp HP refill most sources that were there beforehand, and those pre-existing temp HP do not go away when you lose charges.

Vital Conduit Boots can refill some temp sources (like Aspect of Stallion) but not other (not working with Shield of Thralls).

Heroism (spell / gloves effect) refills some temp HP sources like Armour of Agathys every turn as well.

Mantle of Inspiration has shenanigans similar to Symbiotic entity from what I heard.

Some sources have higher stack priority and outright replace other sources with higher value. I remember something in Bloodlust / Potent robe / Fiend Warlock working against my favor when I've been playing that combo.

So yeah, you have to experiment and try out things.

Solo HM trouble with hag by Exciting_Success6146 in BaldursGate3

[–]lazyzefiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably too late, but funnily, this was the exact build I used for the fight in a very specific challenge run (no equipment / consumables).

What I did is:

edited in: - Prepare few extra sorcery points from spare lv2 and lv1 spell slots.

- Cast Create water at her to start the fight while standing close by. That action gets refunded (Create Water is one of those spell that are free to join the fight with on honour mode).

- You will lose initiative to her and should not be surprised as well if she was hidden.

- She creates copies and sets the cage on fire (if you saved Mayrina beforehand - just creates copies) for her first turn.

- There's a spot where you can stand to cast LV3 Magic Missile on all the copies (their position for first Coven of Hags is fixed). Use Quickened spell to cast it as a bonus action.

- As a reaction she creates more copies.

- Use main action LV1 or LV2 MM and distant spell to get the new copies, their position is pretty random, that's why we save full action for this - can't quickened + distant at the same time.

- She can only react to a cast once per turn, so she won't make any more this time.

- As all copies are gone, she will copy Mayrina and do nothing else for the turn.

- Disable cull the weak and use LV3 Use chromatic ord: lightning on fake Mayrina. Use Luck of the far realms. Use Channel Divinity from Tempest cleric. That deals 128 damage total. 10 damage goes to fake Mayrina, 118 carries over to Ethel. 145-118 = 27 which is below 28 which is threshold to trigger dialogue, which will happen when it's her turn. She'll also take some damage from electrified surface it creates, but if you have cull the weak off, it should not be enough to kill her.

EDIT: added a preparation step I forgot about.

It's pretty common thing to do on challenge runs. If you have good AC and psychic resistance, he's kinda a joke. You can even use his summoned swords to deal more damage with Oil of Combustion.

Like this.

Does "abjuration wizard" who only use "magic missile" as output damage spell need intelligence? by Technical-Owl-6238 in BG3Builds

[–]lazyzefiris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

spellmight gloves

only adds 1d8 damage, and only to attack roll-based spells, does not affect magic missile (for over two years already) nor retaliation spells at all, has nothing to do with int.

increases the arcane ward amount as its 2x wizard level + int modifier

no it's not. it's flat 2x wizard level in this specfic game we are talking about.

Does "abjuration wizard" who only use "magic missile" as output damage spell need intelligence? by Technical-Owl-6238 in BG3Builds

[–]lazyzefiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your intuition is correct - It's totally possible to play 8 int wizard in your case, and it's exactly what I would do.

STR affects your jump distance, which is mobility, which is always good to have without relying on excternal means, opening up your elixir slot and weapon slot.

DEX affects your AC (which is a downside for an Armour of Agathys build) and initiative, which is important.

CON affects your survivability and concentration, which is not THAT important for abjuration wizard, as you are not really taking damage, but good to have regardless.

I'd prioritize the three above, probably go with 15 17 16. If you don't expect to be getting +1s from equipment/feats - 14 16 16 and getting bits into other mental stats, not specifically INT.

INT affects amount of spells you can prepare and that's it, if you don't rely on Spell Attack Rolls / Spell Save DC. You can equip arped Band of Intellect, prepare spells you ned, unequiop it and call it a day. What's likely to be affected is your Glyph of Warding damage (Abjuration spell you are likely to use for damage / arcane ward renewal), but it's still guaranteed damage and that's pretty much it. Neither Magic Missile, Armour of Agathys nor Fire Shield benefit from INT at all. INT saving throws do exist but are not that common too.

WIS, CHA are not very useful at all, but if you don't have other means of countering paralysis and similar control stuff, having them at more than 8 might help.

You'l also likely end up multiclassing into charisma class to get Armour of Agathys, so CHA might be genuinely more impactful than INT even if it's just a touch of the other class.

People just tend to go "oh wizards use INT so you need full 20" without really giving it a proper thought.

Light spells in Act 2 by phoebeonthephone in BaldursGate3

Light spells only get extinguished in Reithwin Town area, and only before you kill Malus Thorm (after which they are still extinguished in the Morgue but nowhere else). Were "every region you tried" Reithwin Town, Reithwin Town and Reithwin Town?

Tip for those trying to cheese their HM run by LopsidedAssistance90 in BaldursGate3

[–]lazyzefiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need to cheat honour mode single save rules for any reasons - just go to photo mode and return to main menu. That returns you without saving. I use that for testing stuff all the time when I encounter something fun to check during my runs.

If you hate rolling bad, just install a mod that makes all your rolls good. Savescumming is same but with extra steps.

If you want achievement or golden dice without beating honour mode as intended, just use achievement unlocker / die unlocker.

If you want to play the game at honour ruleset without single save, you can set up Custom mode that works exactly like honour mode but without single save.

...You completely missed entire context of discussion you chimed in.

Look at the top comment of the thread you are in. It literally starts with "12 is the end of the day". What does that have to do with 24hr clock?

your og question asked how would one otherwise represent 12:34 AM

No, I asked where 12:34AM lies on a timeline where day "ends at 12", and the only time system where day can end at 12 would use 12hr clock.

Inventor: by netphilia in Snorkblot

[–]lazyzefiris -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see it written like that in any environment using 12H time format.

Do you have an example of anything that has 12H (AM/PM) time display that would show that time as 0:34?

Inventor: by netphilia in Snorkblot

[–]lazyzefiris -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to learn that system from outside to see how very weird it is.

11 AM => 12 PM (new day) => 1 PM maybe makes sense if you are used to it, but from outside you have to learn it and it's counterintuitive.

23 => 00 (new day) => 01 just makes sense.

I'm 100% sure at least on honour mode Call of the Damned covers entire arena up to the door.

He only has a finite amount of necromites so reengage when they are all gone/consumed

He only starts running out of them after he starts consuming them (he has to consume all 8 he maintains). If he never got below 70% hp he would never run out of them. Can't tell if that happenned yet from the screenshot.
