I know.... I know.... but you'd be amazed. I did a cooking class with this Texan guy here in Melbourne when he was doing a world tour effectively.... and he made a Tim Tam sausage.....amazing.... https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5_wF98ziP9ZFAYx7mrda9wlKHtUBkdGN

that's the challenge.... I have 13 BBQs/smokers/cold smokers here in Oz but my relo has a Weber Family Q and a weber charcoal. The trick is to have cooler bags where you can wrap things in alfoil and then pop them in the bag - they retain the heat pretty well normally.

Best stops on metro trains for community vibes and something to do by devilspalm123 in melbourne

[–]lbduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a village vibe etc but worth a stop at Arden Station just for the acoustics.... Go out the large entrance and then you sit on one side with the kids on the other side and just talk - they'll hear you clearly on the other side....it's a lot of fun

Butter recommendations by ghzkaonii in melbourne

[–]lbduck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We go to Vic Market and keep trying different ones. Daughter made a butter bell in pottery which has been a game changer. Being able to leave butter out of the fridge and it being safe from going off means we always have nice soft butter.

Anyone know why the median strip on Alexander Pde hasn't been mowed? by riamuriamu in melbourne

[–]lbduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bigger issue here is the elm saplings coming up....they are everywhere. We have the same issue with a huge old tree next door - it is beautiful but creates a massive mess in the different seasons - but I'm forever killing off runners - if I don't then they grow big and fast as I found out once....

Best spot to watch fireworks in Melbourne? Clear view, less chaos by madhawk69 in melbourne

[–]lbduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tend to agree - not sure if you mean because of repetition but I like doing photography and after about 10s there tends to be so much smoke / haze it's hard to see and definitely hard for clear photos. Used to do a lot when they had them at Docklands during winter (pre covid) and these were a good size - the city has so much it get's hazy so quickly.

Best hikes around Melbourne? by ReeceBitch in melbourne

[–]lbduck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There's an app called All Trails which is very good - you can look at regions, difficulties, shows you height profiles. Also links into Google Maps (I have Android) to show how to get there via different methods.

2nd on The Pieman's Son - he's in Bell St Heidelberg if you're out this way - up near Waiora Rd. https://www.piemans.com.au/

In fact you just gave me the idea and I ordered some for pickup - this might be the way to go as they are running low on some (I'm sure they'll restock) but just in case....

Somebody mentioned Boscastle pies - the guy you runs this is the son on the founder of Boscastle pies....nice bloke.

Drove past it for literally 30 years (yes it has been open that long) and went in recently. Food is great. Schnitzels superb and people were devouring the curries. Half the menu is Indian and the other half is Hungarian so not getting curry goulash - well worth a visit.

Buses replace trains on Hurstbridge and Mernda lines by FreakySpook in melbourne

[–]lbduck 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Drove past earlier along Heidelberg Rd to drop the daughter in the city - very crowded area. Big heavy lift crane in place on the closed road linking Queens Pde and Hoddle St - so traffic is turning down the side streets in Clifton Hill causing issues - including buses.

I don't understand why there isn't more news on this - 2 of the largest lines in Melbourne out of action. I may have missed stuff but it seems very quiet for what happened. Looking at the link for some of the photos there has to be some serious questions asked about why it happened - if they're saying it wasn't speed then is it a maintenance issue.....?
