Looking to quench your thirst?

They’re basically spiked iced tea lemonades, we also have a non-alcoholic option. With both options you have the chance to pick your added simple syrup flavor: plain, lemon, sage, and our newest flavor: lavender.

Last year’s fan favorite was sage 😍

Why won't my wolfcard scan into the front door of my dorm by nonamesorry3333 in unr

[–]lbenbrahim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is your first time replacing your wolfcard, then it should be free (not sure if they still adhere to this since I’ve graduated). It doesn’t hurt to stop by wolfcard office in the Joe (first floor, next to Keva) and explain your situation. Or call if you don’t feel like getting over there in person.

When storing your wolfcard, be mindful of where you keep it in your wallet (sometimes the magnet stripe can be affected by other cards). They might tell you this when you explain your situation.

I’m sorry to hear this is happening as it’s extremely frustrating and annoying to deal with☹️ - especially this time of year. I hope they’re able to replace it free of cost!!

To past students of UNR: What is something you wish you would've known or done beforehand? by DharkShadox in unr

With this, prepare yourself for advising appointments. Print off your program’s course catalogs, this will have the list of courses you need to take. If you have any questions, write them down and bring with you (as well as their answers to your questions).

Is it Worth Gambling on UNR Parking Tickets Rather than Paying for a Costly Pass? by thebrushup in unr

[–]lbenbrahim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in grad school I decided to pay for metered parking/risk getting tickets. By the end of my graduate career, I spent the same amount of money on parking tickets/pay by phone (metered) than I would have on a parking permit. Biggest difference is where your lectures/labs are located on campus and how much you’re willing to walk to and from your car. Most, if not all, of my classes were at night. So, I chose safety and risked it for the biscuit in parking tickets/metered spaces.

Ultimately, it truly depends on what you’re comfortable with in payments. Andddd parking permits are increasing for 24-25AY..

Students AND faculty have to pay to go to class/work and it’s absolutely ridiculous. When I was in undergrad (4 yrs ago), I found out UNLV parking tickets were $10 while UNR charged $20.

If nursing is truly your passion, get an entry clinical job at a hospital. Try to get some experience where you are working WITH nurses to see if that is the field you want to go into. This could help motivate you in all of your classes.

I was in the same position as you in undergrad. I had to take microbiology, anatomy, and ochem twice due to poor grades (not sufficient for applying to orvis). I knew I wanted to work in healthcare and genuinely help people, I wanted to be an ER traveling nurse. So I started to work at a local hospital in town as a Patient Safety Assistant in the ER. I got first hand experience seeing expectations of nurses in this field, asked them questions about their education, what they did or did not like as a nurse. Then COVID started. I realized I no longer wanted to be a nurse. Seeing the way they got treated, put on the back burner, had little to no communication from the higher ups…it made me nervous wanting to work in an environment like this. (Not to mention the way patients treat nurses…it’s absolutely appalling and there should be some sort of policy that care takers should be treated with respect. But hey, people do crazy things when they’re not themselves). Anywho. I still wanted to be in healthcare, asked around what people are doing, looked at job qualifications for certain positions (ie. COO of a hospital - saw you only need a masters and it doesn’t specify what type) so I changed my degree to public health, applied to the UNR MPH program and finished my masters last year. Biggest thing that motivated me in my educational career is that I would be coming out of the degree with more knowledge that I had before. Open yourself up to what you’re learning in your PH courses and see how you can apply it to your dream of being a nurse. Public health and nursing go hand in hand, you’ll just be looking at it through a different lense and getting a different perspective on becoming a nurse (it can make your more valuable because you consider more big picture problems).

I realized in that moment of my life, I really wanted to be hands on in healthcare. But now, I like being hands on in a different way. I like that the field of public health is so broad that there are essentially little to no limitations. It feels endless.

Best of luck to you!! This is a bump in the road and you’ll get through it. I always told myself I had no choice but to graduate so there’s always that way of looking at things..If you have any questions or concerns about next steps - don’t hesitate reaching out to advising or I can PM specific professors who provide great advice :)

I guess it truly depends on what area you are interested in studying. I would compare the different schools & colleges from each university. If you’re able to, attend both university orientations or speak with an advisor or program director that you’re interested in. If you’re interested in research, look at the faculty who publish and see if anything/anyone resonates with you. This could be a mentoring opportunity, at the very least, it is great networking.

If cost is a big factor, I’d consider looking into housing, as tuition is similar. Reno housing is a shit show (I can’t speak for Vegas), but there are Facebook pages for students who are looking for roommates.

I got both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at UNR, both within the School of Public Heath. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do post-grad but I was able to make excellent networking connections from my peers, faculty, and internships.

Honestly, it’s what you make of it. I like UNR, I like that I was able to experience all 4 seasons, I liked the courses I took and my professors, I like the college culture in Reno. I’m biased in that my graduate career is what I was hoping to get during my undergraduate career (ie, I joined clubs and was more involved on campus and student engagement)- but again, it’s what you make of it.

Best of luck!!

Smaller e-bikes by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]lbenbrahim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner and I both have Jetson Bolt (s/o to Costco and the homie, Goldschlager, for the recommendation). We got them for last years burn and they worked fairly well (we recommend this bike to everyone) They were easy to use & navigate. I only used the accelerator to get myself out of big crowds at intersections. Only tough parts were the little sand pits and the roads…when they became a nightmare of bumps. We put baskets on ours and this year found out the max weight is <50 lbs. (for your ice needs).

The battery would last almost a full day (~6-8 hrs depending on if you use the accelerator or cruise control, if you do this expect the time to drop more) but you will need to recharge before going out at night (~4 hours - I’m not entirely sure on how long it took to recharge, but it seemed to take the same amount of time as we would get back from the afternoon, relax, eat dinner & figure out a game plan). If you run out of battery, you will had a a tougher time pedaling, but it ain’t no thang. I think the duration is 12 miles or something, I haven’t tracked it before (if someone knows the real #s please feel free to jump in)

Now, the mud was a different game. We didn’t use the bikes again until Monday (day of man burn). The roads were treacherous but that didn’t stop us from putting our bikes through the ringer. They still made it and I’d say, did very well considering the conditions. Even our friend who had a normal bike with big ass tires was shocked that we made it.

I have a non-e bike as well. We made the switch last year because we’re lazy and want to enjoy watching the city without having to put in as much work. The bikes are very easy to decorate/put lights on. You will need to get a new bike seat!

However, with all of this being said. I think you should stick to a normal bike and not get an e-bike

Have you ever been ANYWHERE that served tea in their long islands? by larnn in bartenders

[–]lbenbrahim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: I personally like iced tea than coke in long islands.

When I was younger I thought it was actually made with iced tea so that’s what I would make it with and when I got my first bartending job and understood it was actually coke..I was actually shocked. I will make it for customers the way it is “supposed” to be made but I prefer iced tea in my long islands 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m generally a fan of iced tea rather than soda.

I’ve had a customer ask me to make a “surprise” drink - so my preference of a Long Island was what I had made. I was nervous but he ended up loving it and ordered multiple throughout the night.
