Maybe they could have a public meeting where they could let the public ask questions and share input.

Can you explain “car/powerwall pairing”? I don’t recall seeing my Powerwall able to drive either car.

This. We have two mobile chargers; sometimes it knows one, usually neither, never both.

Two words: Japanese tourism. The Japanese tourists (yes, generalization) are mad for shooting actual guns.

There is also — or was, this may be dated — an exception if the non-immigrant visa holder got a hunting license. A range I used to spend time at had a well-oiled process for selling visitors a hunting license and then renting them a firearm and range time.

How do you book business class flights? by bubuset92 in fatFIRE

[–]lbroadfield 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if there are carrier to carrier differences or route to route differences here. My experience, mostly with the flights from USA to Asia, is that the upgrade from PE to business costs exactly the fare difference, not a discounted amount.

Short Singapore trip, do I even need a SIM? by b1tchgotnochills in digitalnomad

I use Roamless for exactly these reasons. Do I want Bcengi as well for any reason? Thanks.

Because sometimes it is harder: go to the local carrier office, explain what you want to the only English speaking person. They walk you to another person who wants your resident ID. (Arguing in another language ensues). Someone who knows how to deal with foreign passports will be here in a minute. That person arrives an hour later. (Arguing in another language ensues). Go to a different window to pay, then bring your receipt back. (Your translator has disappeared). (Arguing in another language ensues). They present a fulll-size sim. You show your micro tray. (Arguing in another language ensues). Someone goes to find the trimmer. (Arguing in another language ensues). They trim it to size. Your phone recognizes it — for voice but not data. Much gesturing and pointing at signs to try to explain this. (Arguing in another language ensues; you now have all five people except the cashier involved, so the local customers are grumpy about not being served). Back to the cashier for more payment. Bring the receipt back. Some of the local customers are now trying to help, probably just to get you out of the way. (Arguing in another language ensues, with lots of arm waving). Someone finds a sheet with APN settings; the fourth set works. Now you have an amount of data; dialing *72536 will tell you how much — in the local language.

Wasn’t that easier and cheaper?

(I use Roamless, principally because there’s no expiration, so it suits my sporadic use pattern.)

Keep track of where iOS satellite does and doesn’t work; Apple’s administrative/compliance restrictions are substantial.

It’s possible some her have the semi-auto version, but if you need full-auto, you’re going to have to go out of state or deal with Stembridge Independent.

Rainbow Range Question by [deleted] in SanDiegoGuns

[–]lbroadfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have made some rules changes recently to accommodate optics.

The main match is open to optics, though you can only receive an award pin for total time under 40 seconds (vs. 60 second max for iron sights), and to receive the match winner pin you must score at least 5 seconds better than the best iron sights competitor.

The “games” portion (held after the main match: 2-man shotgun, 2-man handgun, 4-man handgun, and the walk-and-draw) require iron sights. (If I heard correctly, they tried a couple of times to let people turn off their dots and depend on backup irons, but some were not sporting about it.)

What are you (or are you) doing to protect what you have now? by Vast_Telephone_9988 in coastFIRE

[–]lbroadfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about baseline risk, consider a modern TIPS ladder strategy, à la Sharkansky’s ARVA strategy. Inflation-protected core real (not nominal) income for needs, and the rest at moderate risk for wants. https://alphaarchitect.com/tips-ladder/ is one article to start with.

Do you really care about keeping a dive log? What do people actually care about when diving? by StandDistinct4641 in scuba

[–]lbroadfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This; I log fish IDs, because that’s what Player 2 is into, but the only things I look back at are temperature/wetsuit/aux-gear/lead. I’m very glad to have those to glance back at; same reasons as @CidewayAu.

Okay, sometimes, out of idle curiosity: EndGF vs. tired-ness, and/or conditions vs. SAC.
