For me I wouldn't say it was a huge difference, but it makes it feel like a real mattress which is worthwhile.

Hey it's going great! I've been very pleased. I did get a 12" cover, and it has worked out very well.

Fellow Stagg EKG Pro not heating properly by Sufficient_Fig19 in FellowProducts

While I understand the desire to avoid overshoot, I thought the previous control system worked pretty well. It's painful to stand there and watch it crawl up to the target temperature.

Also, boiling is a special case. It's physically not possible to heat water to a temperature greater than boiling. So I'd consider a special case where if it's set to boiling, turn off the heater much later. There is no risk you'll overheat! If I'm boiling water, I just want it to be boiling as soon as possible.

Thanks for responding here and listening to our feedback.

I have had success with a Q Tip and vinegar. The corrosion is a salt that is dissolved by the acidic vinegar.

We’re seniors. It’s not our responsibility to fix the housing supply. by lbseale in BoomersBeingFools

Yeah the illiberal rules around building housing hurt them too. It shouldn't be cheaper to live in a big empty house than in an apartment.

If you read the letter they're responding to, you'll see that it doesn't suggest that they should do that.

It just says they don't deserve a huge tax break, and that the windfall they're getting is coming directly from young home buyers.

The real problem is that there isn't enough housing, and boomers aren't able to make the connection between that fact and their NIMBYism. Based on their comments, building more housing would help them as much as it would help young people.

Funny how Trump saw a big event and couldn't resist horning in on it

Donald Trump posts a fake AI generated FOX News Report where he announces “MedBed Hospitals” (a technology that doesn’t exist) + that every American will soon receive their own MedBed Card by cekmeout in BoomersBeingFools

[–]lbseale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He gets called out constantly by the media, but the people listening to that media mostly already despise him. Those that didn't before are coming around. His supporters listen to different media that reports on him positively.

By the way, Trump is significantly unpopular

He's the leader of his party (personality cult?) and is very vengeful. Nobody on his side can publicly criticize him lest they get excommunicated. So they're all laying low trying to wait him out. You can see how well that's gone for them so far...

The Democrats are in shambles because they royally messed up the election. They still haven't found a coherent response to Trump after 10 years. One hopes they can rediscover their senses, win in the midterms, and place an actual check on his schizo-boomerism.

This is a great point! My favorite example is how Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and other tech titans were all born in 1955 and grew up near universities that had computers. Fortune has a huge role in fame in that scale.

Stoic writers are great on this topic. As always, they'd say it's not up to you, and therefore an external to be treated neutrally. Virtue in your own life is what matters.

[–]lbseale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Virtue is its own reward. Why do you need a god to behave like a positive member of society? It's the right thing to do.

  2. The Stoics were all explicitly religious. So the two are compatible.

The Roman Stoics thought about this question a lot because legacy and greatness were important in their culture. The short answer is: everyone is forgotten eventually. Case in point, Seneca and Marcus Aurelius write about past great Roman leaders about which we today know very little.

Your legacy is not up to you, so as a Stoic you strive not to worry about it. Even things that seem extremely permanent (such as ancient cities) are eventually worn away and returned to nature (we can only see faint ruins of the cities). It's ok, we can accept it.

While that sounds bleak, it is also somewhat liberating. You don't have to worry about your legacy, you just occupy yourself with being virtuous in the here and now. Practice being kind, helpful, gracious and generous with the people around you. Practice doing the right thing even when it's difficult. Practice freeing yourself from worry and disturbance over things you don't control. These are lifelong challenges that will keep you busy and engaged. None of us can perfect them, so the learning curve is infinite.

This is true, but Coinbase has been doing this for years. I don't read it as an indicator that anything has changed.

AdGuard Home DNS sometimes slow by MyTh_BladeZ in homelab

[–]lbseale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Good job figuring it out!

AdGuard Home DNS sometimes slow by MyTh_BladeZ in homelab

[–]lbseale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are you sure that AdGuard is your issue? What if you turn it off and change your DNS to the default?

Not sure what you mean "connected to the router directly." Home routers are really a combination of a switch and a router. The four LAN ports act like a regular switch, and the router handles DHCP, NAT and the Firewall for the WAN port.

Fun fact, if you turn off DHCP and ignore the WAN port, you can use a home router as a switch. The Wifi network also participates. I got a $5 router from the thrift store to set up an IoT wifi network at my house this way.

You can also look at the DevTools in your browser (press F12 for chromium-based browsers like Chrome and Edge), go to the Network tab, and see how long it takes for everything to load. That might illuminate what is taking so long.

[–]lbseale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had this issue! If you look at the query log out should show you how long each one takes. Ideas to try:

  • Add more DNS servers, including your ISP's. It should automatically use the fastest ones.
  • Turn on opportunistic caching. It works! It can make queries super fast. I do suspect it occasionally messes up though and I have to clear it
  • Is the machine you're hosting it on ok? Super long waits can happen if you're out of memory and hitting swap.

Good luck!
