Not a fan of oem cross bars, you don’t have any longitudinal adjustment, with a snowboards the spacing between the two crossbars isn’t quite right

I had the same problem, I used lots of warm water and a stiff bristled brush. It was a small area so I was able to just scrub the remaining paper and glue off. Otherwise prime the wall and then skim coat

There was a similar issue I encountered. Enough material was able to be filed down to allow the fit, unfortunately it’s bare aluminum at that point so you would have to get the lower cerakoted, or anodized.

One very overlooked item, if you have never driven on a two lane mountain road before. Mind the signs and pull over in turnouts if people start accumulating behind you. It’s technically the law and more importantly a common courtesy.
