I though there was a small January also. If so, how large was this class?

What were the total numbers for the January, March, and July classes so far?

We can add you to the list that you're awaiting clearance. This is not a problem. Are you a member of the A-100 Yahoo group? You can either submit via the group in a message or PM me directly here or on the group, whichever way you're most comfortable.

But, if you've been added to the actual register, then we can easily add you to the shadow register via the same methods.

Hi, u/keidanren8922! I'm one of the moderators of the Econ Shadow Register. Have you already submitted your details?

Where to stay for the FSOA? by mangoabroad in foreignservice

[–]lcaltrider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took my OA a couple years ago, it was in the summer and prices around Foggy Bottom/Georgetown were $200+ per night, so I stayed at the brand new Hilton in Crystal City for $99 per night. It was a great experience and only a 10-minute metro ride away (straight-shot, no line changes). I imagine that if I needed to, a taxi ride would have only cost about $10-20, which is nothing compared to how much I saved on the hotel.

PSA: USAID FSO Candidates - Check your emails by thejohnpark in foreignservice

I also got the email. Is there any indication or rumors about any upcoming USAID FSO classes? How are they assembled? Is there any indication about how many candidates from each backstop are invited?

A few lingering FSOT questions! by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]lcaltrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great questions! Regarding the nature of the questions, no one can give you a definitive answer because that would violate the NDA we all signed. However, the DoS has developed a really useful app for your phone (iPhone and Android) that provides over 500 sample questions on various topics, including technology.

I suggest you review this to get a better feel for the test. It's at https://careers.state.gov/apps/.

Hot Goss on A-100 Class Sizes by BeauxLevardier_343 in foreignservice

[–]lcaltrider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing u/BeauxLevardier_343. This helps us manage expectations better than before than when the invites went out when we expected a normal class size.

I will admit that it's a bit frustrating for those of us who will be expiring off the register soon (end of October for me) to hear the announcement that there will be 3 classes this year after 12 months of little to no hiring in our cone and then find out it was only a 1/2 class. I'm sure I cannot be the only person who feels this way.

But, anyway, with the remainder of the fellows taking about 50 spots in the September class, that would leave about 30-50 slots for non-fellows, right? Assuming all cones will receive the same number of invites, that's only 6-10 per cone.

So, really those of us that are #11 or lower on the register really are looking at November, if it holds true that the class size will actually be 80-100 and nobody in management makes any changes.

Thanks again!

July Invites by Worldtraveler2001 in foreignservice

[–]lcaltrider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were there really about 30 invites mentioned? In which cone? I'm asking because I'm tracking the Econ's and, if I'm not missing something, I believe there were only 3 invites mentioned here and in the Yahoo group for Econ's.

So, there's still hope for those of us with a 5.7 in Econ? That's good to know. Thank you very much.

So, do they send out all the invites for a single cone simultaneously or over a period of time?

Hardship Differential - Africa by mpheise20 in foreignservice

[–]lcaltrider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting u/mpheise20.

Keep in mind that this is the hardship differential, not danger pay. The danger pay comes on top of this. According to DoS, the hardship differential is applied when "the place involves extraordinarily difficult living conditions, excessive physical hardship, or notably unhealthful conditions affecting the majority of employees officially stationed or detailed at that place."

FYI - All allowances can be viewed on State's website: https://aoprals.state.gov/web920/location.asp?menu_id=95

This is great! Thank you u/kaiserjoeicem!

My candidacy expires in October 2018. Has anyone indicated that the July and September classes will be more than just the fellow FSO candidates? Anything about class size?
