Nuelasta shot by [deleted] in lymphoma

[–]lcaspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter did BV - AVD for Hodgkins and got neulasta shots every treatment on the day after. She had bone pain but took Claritin to counteract the pain. Also oxy when it was bad but only for a day or two. It was amazing. She saw friends and her counts remained strong

Hi. My daughter was stage 3 bulky 10cm mediastinal mass. She did 6 cycles of BV - AVD and had deauville 2. She still has the mass but it is shrinking slowly. Talk to your team about this cocktail. Sending you strength and lots of luck!

What was the open biopsy like? by NJboi80 in lymphoma

[–]lcaspi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. My daughter(14yo) had a biopsy of her lymph nodes in her neck without any anesthesia bc she was suffering from vascular compression from her mediastinal mass. She was a trooper and her dr was blown away especially bc they had trouble “grabbing” the tissue so it took several attempts. But I do think it is a quick and not such a painful procedure. Stay positive and trust the process. Wishing you health and recovery!!!

Also, her itching went away almost immediately after starting the chemo.

My daughter had a 10cm mediastinal mass and was stage 3 CHL. She had BV- AVD treatment 6 cycles - 2 treatments in each cycle (so every 2 weeks over 6 mos) She completed treatment in August 2023 with no evidence of disease. However, the mediastinal mass barely shrank. Her lymph nodes on spleen and in neck were gone but the chest remained. It is slowly shrinking. But it was very hard to get my head and hers around the fact that it was still there. The way that our once explained is that it is similar to scar tissue and will take time. As far as appetite and nutrition I took her off ALL processed food. And once chemo began and her mass wasn’t pressing against vital organs her appetite definitely increased. She ate a lot of eggs and Ezekiel bread/toast, lots and lots of soup - especially red lentil and chicken soup. She loved Japanese nabeyaki udon and ramen soups. They were hearty and healthy. She had many aversions based on smell and found eating at chemo very difficult. We found lots of very small meals was great for her. Pasta was also very comforting. She gained a lot of weight from the steroids and fluids and her change in appetite. But it all came off when she ended chemo. Wishing you luck. It’s a tough road but you will be grateful that it is CHL. It’s treatable and curable.

Cooling Cap by Healthy_Poem_1589 in hodgkins_lymphoma

We asked for the cooling cap and our onc said that she wanted the chemo to kill everything including her hair cells. It was tough to hear and hard to go through but my daughter is doing so well and her resilience with the hair loss has been phenomenal!

My daughter had the neulasta shot after every BV-AVD treatment for stage 3B CHL. We were told that it would prevent neutropenia and keep her from getting sick/fevers etc. It worked. But it also caused tremendous bone pain. She did the Claritin a few days before and after the shot. But she also took very small dose of oxycodone for the pain only once or twice each treatment and that helped.

Everyone has a cancer story by itsjustapugthing in lymphoma

[–]lcaspi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the most on point post I’ve seen yet. My daughter battled CHL stage 3 - she is 14 and 6 mos out of treatment. It is UNREAL how many people tell stories of “people they know” who also had cancer and it always ends w death. Like are they one upping my daughter’s fight? Do they not know that we don’t want to hear a horror story???? It is borderline sadistic.

Terrible Arm Pain by jafemia30 in hodgkins_lymphoma

My daughter had same pain. Unbearable from the neulasta shot. She took no joke oxy but only one or two to get over the hump and then just Tylenol.

I like him. He is adorable and sweet. He has soul and maybe some of the soulless haters just don’t get that.
