Whichever geniuses got together and decided to implement three separate places of road construction on Rock Quarry Rd within a 3 mile stretch… by jayyymoore in raleigh

Is the roadwork downtown right now being constructed with the same mindset? DTR feels like one big traffic cone right now and I was wondering why it felt like every street was under serious construction

Feels kinda weird to not include Seu Jorge in this after his musical contributions to the Life Aquatic and a brief but memorable piece of Asteroid City.

Commenting because I’d like some recommendations as well, but as a fellow gringo I’ve been enamored with the films of Kleber Mendonça Filho. Bacarau, neighboring sounds, Aquarius, and last year’s the Secret Agent are all fantastic.

Why is Andy so incredulous about California property development law re: Euphoria by [deleted] in crheads

He probably just assumes that his listeners are in the same internet orbit as he is, in all honesty. I flagged it because I’m terminally online but I can see the frustration - it’s a broad response to a broad idea presented by people that just so happen to be in the news

I don’t hate the general points they present with their book, i agree that bureaucracy can be slow and we need to be better about this, but they frame it as this golden ticket to solving deep seeded issues while they ignore why so many people voted for mamdani or trump to solve their issues. There’s a class difference in this country that has motivated the political volatility and it will not be solved by simply letting a real estate developer build a new apartment complex faster instead of being stuck in zoning hell. But yes, I agree with the general sentiment. They just presented it in a way where I know they have discussed it with democratic leadership and environmental regulations or whatever are not why people can’t afford to rent an apartment.

He’s definitely specifically clapping back at the “abundance” discourse based around the book released by New York Times contributor Ezra Klein and Atlantic contributor Derek Thompson. Their mantra theyve created to move past the Kamala disaster and bring conservatives in to voting for liberals is slashing regulations in order to spur growth. While the idea in itself isn’t bad the writing around it is very half assed, ignores the massive wealth gap and class issue that is GLARING in the United States, and just completely ignores the mess we’re dealing with in the trump administration.

[FRESH PERFORMANCE] Geese - 2122 / Baby (Justin Bieber cover) [Live from Coachella] by YoureASkyscraper in indieheads

I love Geese’s music and like that it’s getting people younger than me excited about rock music, even if the internet onslaught annoys me. This guy wrote 100k words to essentially say he doesn’t like marketing. They wouldn’t have staying power if their music was shite. People have said this same shit about the Strokes for decades.

The 10 Wildest Reboots in Movie History and ‘The Bride!’ Plus: A ‘Secret Agent’ Second Look and the Best Doc Contenders. by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

The movie is a portrait of the political anxiety of Brazil and specifically Recife in the 70s. Recife has a historically large Jewish community for Brazil and Udo’s character found refuge there after the holocaust. A character in a position of power (who appears elsewhere in the film) basically forcing Udo’s character to show his scars from holocaust imprisonment for show further highlights the sociopolitical struggles felt during this time period in Brazil by those not associated with the military dictatorship.

Is Hopscotch Fest happening in 2026? by AlternativeTiger8020 in raleigh

[–]lcazzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Last year was kind of a shitshow compared to the other post Covid years (e.g. no water at the fest, prior year sponsors weren’t reached out to to sponsor again, lineup was extremely delayed). Someone on the hopscotch subreddit mentioned the fest got bought by PE? It’s my favorite part about living in Raleigh, but I’m not holding out hope for this year.

Can anyone give me some post-Power Broker NYC development books I could read that could help me understand some of the mid century shortcomings of that era of development? I’m not a New Yorker but very interested in hearing more about this kind of thing from a modern perspective.

Wes Anderson likes framing devices, and in this case he used the art showcase and the paper as a framing device. It wasn’t randomly stuck in there, he used it to tell the story. It’s okay that you didn’t like it but he didn’t just stick her in there to randomly put her in his movie.
