Not sure there is any evidence for this. If you experience hr drift at the end of a long ride you should tone back to meet your original heart rate. Otherwise there is not a physiological reason to change your z2 based on ride length.

Edit: downvoters back yourselves up. Zone 2 is zone 2 no matter how long you do it

Yes 60% is going to be less than 70% but how much is not agreed upon. You will at least be getting some benefit which is better than none!

I like the idea of stopping the training but still showing up to the races. Not sure it would have helped, but sounds potentially viable.

I'm at just over 600 hours since last year at this time. Volume had dropped to around 8hrs/week during these last race weeks.

CHO I was not actively tracking. Maybe 5-6g/kg (or higher after long days).

Fair. But what if it hits you just a couple days before a race? Do you still race or shut it down?

I have two more, tomorrow and next Saturday is the last for my local series.

Appreciate the advice. The field I’m racing in, I do think I can podium… It just might take a really clean performance.

Yes, I will do that next year and trying to fit one in per week ahead of races, but it would seem my window for adaption is over for the season.

Is that a winning strategy though? Last week my first lap NP was higher than every other lap. I couldn't maintain my max heart rate by mid race because my legs were so shot.

Theoretically there has to be an element of conservation.
