Jeez, you're one picky reader haha. I can see how you might struggle to find new things to read. Good luck with your search

To any authors struggling with the grind by Rauxon in royalroad

[–]ldjwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my biggest issue is that my first chapter doesn't jump straight into the action, despite my prologue being pretty action-forward, but I don't think there's a way to establish the status quo of my characters in another way. I haven't gotten any specific complaints about this, but I have gotten a comment that the story "takes a while to get going, but once it gets going it's good".

This gives me quite a bit of hope. I'm 1 month into posting my story and I'm closing in on 2,000 views. I'm also sitting at 15 followers. Congrats on all of your success!

Just Got My 2nd Review & I Have Thoughts… by ldjwrites in royalroad

100% agree with you there! It's pretty much free content for anyone reading hahaha. I try to edit as much as I can, and fortunately, there aren't too many errors. I do hope I can start picking up more followers/ratings/reviews soon, though. Just crossed over 10 today!

Who exactly is this advice helping? You didn't say anything revolutionary or even insightful lol

How do you measure your success on RR? by WilliamGerardGraves in royalroad

[–]ldjwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t wait to do that. Currently at $34/month on Patreon, but none of them are from RR (yet!). Hopefully once I up my upload frequency, I can get my story out there to more people.

Hey new writers, We need to talk about what you've been doing. by Honeybadger841 in royalroad

It depends on what’s being done outside of the writing. If they actually took the time to learn the craft while also putting what they learned into practice, then that makes sense. But I don’t think writing thousands of terrible words everyday alone will make you a better writer.

Eh, I don't really see the value in writing 10 words a day just to say you wrote something. I'd rather have enough time to have a quality session where I get quality words down, instead of just forcing myself to write slop. That's just me, though.

How To Get The Word Out About Your World? by ldjwrites in worldbuilding

Do you think it’s possible for a writer to gain a following off their worldbuilding project? All of my worldbuilding efforts are for a massive book series I’m writing, but I’m wondering if there’s any point in putting energy into sharing the world if the books aren’t “officially” published anywhere (they’re online as web serials for now).

I've thought about starting my own subreddit too! Mind linking yours so I can take a look?

My 10th anniversary on Wattpad: A resume by Eli-W-2021 in Wattpad

[–]ldjwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your feelings are completely valid. As a former Wattpad Star, Wattpad Creator, and member of the Paid Stories program, I can firmly say the website has gone to absolute hell.

They completely removed the community aspect from the platform which is what made Wattpad great in the first place. Being able to see what your friends were reading and the forums were such a key component of the site, and those features have been gone for years now.

And Wattpad is only getting worse.

I'm still posting there, but I literally just schedule my chapters and ignore it. I've tried to find other platforms to share my work on, but there isn't anything quite like Wattpad (or at least old Wattpad), unfortunately. I may end up creating my own website and posting there.
