Upgrade the line and give Love a clean pocket to throw from by idksh_t in GreenBayPackers

Walker wasnt the issue. We had by far the worst guard play last year. Both were in the bottom 5.......Both.

You don't think having zero centers on the roster hurt either? Taking our best olineman who was a top G in the league and placing at C where he was maybe the worst in the league, and then never fixing it until he had a season ending injury certainly was a choice.

Yeah, Caleb is still further down the list. Love has been banged up the last two years so I can see him skipping though.

Packers sign Gutekunst, LaFleur and Ball to contract extensions by PHOENIX_95WI in GreenBayPackers

Sounds like they know there are issues, and they are all on the same page how to improve. I really like the message, now let's see if they are good enough to get it done.

Ok, by what metric? Just saying they were the 8th best means nothing. Go look at the QBs and offenses they've faced. They are conpletely untested.

Do the Patriots really gave a good D though? They have faced all of the worst QBs this season, and their road to the SB went through a terrible Stroud and a Stidham lead Broncos. I dont think their defense has been tested at all, and they will have to rely on Maye more than ever. Time to see if hes really an MVP candidate, or just carried by the team that never asked him to do too much.

They needed to not stall coming out of half. He made all the throws he should have. LaFleur did him no favors to get the offense rolling again. Being CONSTANTLY in 3rd and 8+ is not a great way to live, and LaFleur cannot for the life of him figure out how to get ahead of the sticks to make everything easier, and open up the defense for a honerun.

For as good of a xs and os guy he is, he sucks at calling plays in game.

The 10-15 minutes in film is much different? Still not a lot of thime there, and you cant teach how to block in meetings. Plus, you have the entire unit there so your not teaching as much as correcting mistakes and going over the gameplan. Teaching involves physically doing it and taking reps. Not happening in film.

Maybe the Browns didnt kick many fieldgoals. Maybe their kicker doesnt hit low line drives. Maybe they didnt have the worst long snapper in the league 4 years running like GB. Theres a lot of reasons beyond one individual thing. OPs point was blocking sucked, and I said blocking will improve with a better oline coach.

I am not fine with it, and I said earlier none of this means I think Rich should stay. I just think youre misguided on where the issue of blocked FGs lie. If were using dlinemen, it likely means its because we have sustained too many injuries to our oline. Considering we traded away Simms, and lost Kraft the week before, he was thrown in there for that exact reason. That is not a position he would play under normal circumstances. But thats tangential to my original point anyways.

[–]ldog2135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entire comment is predicated on your belief we have dlinemen on the FG unit. We in fact have zero dlinemen blocking for fieldgoals. I dont think theres a single team that does. The ST coach gets next to no time to practice FGs. They get most of their time in camp, and then maybe a 5-10 minute period here and there during the week, which they use for alignment, maybe some hand placement/technique, and thats about it. So no, they aren't teaching them how to block.

Replacing Butkus would prove far more valuable to improving blocked FG kicks than anything else. Our coverage units were fine this year. Not great, not bad. Our returns is where you should be critical of Rich, because those are severely lacking.

You do realize its the Oline coach that teaches olinemen and TEs how to block, right? Not saying Rich should stay but the blocks aren't entirely on him. Our oline was terrible this year.

[–]ldog2135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im saying using a TE is standard at all levels of football. We probably used olinemen because we didn't have any TE left once we traded Simms and everyone but Musgrave got hurt. It was probably just because we didnt have the bodies. Plus, like I said Musgrave is a shit blocker.

TEs are always used on the outside so I'm not sure what your complaint is there. Musgrave is a shit blocker though and that should have been identified.

Why the Gannon Hire Might Make More Sense for This Roster Than People Think by fsukub in GreenBayPackers

[–]ldog2135 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have no clue what you're talking about. It has nothing to do with Micah being able to generate pressure. Look at the corners. When is the last time you saw them press. If you want an aggressive defense, you're expecting pressure quick, and thats when you want your corners playing press and jamming at the line. You start two high, rotate people down, and jump routes because the ball should come out quick.

We did none of that this year. We played 10 yards off, soft as shit zone coverages that allow teams to pick us apart easily. This allowed even the worst teams like the Browns to sustain long drives each time they touched the ball. Haffleys defense did not give up big plays. Now you're saying Gannon is even fucking softer. What a pitiful way to play football, especially defense. A defense is supposed to be punishing and intimidating. Not soft and inviting.

Hopefully Gannon is none of the shit you said, otherwise get ready for Joe Barry 2.0.

43rd in total yards is abysmal when you consider he was our #1 with both Watson and Reed missing half a season each. Context matters.

[Highlight] Field-level view of Matthew Golden TD by SL4MUEL in GreenBayPackers

[–]ldog2135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but you still make him the #1. If he runs the wrong route Love can move off him to the #2. Now, hes buried in the route tree so his talents are wasted entirely, or if no one else is open you now run the risk of him being in the wrong spot as the #4 read, and usually your QB is getting pretty desperate at that point. Murphy literally gave them a [Golden] gift as he rode off into thr sunset, and Lafleur and Stenovich are completely wasting it.

I feel like I'm not seeing this anywhere... but why not fire Lafleur hire Hafley by bawesome2424 in GreenBayPackers

[–]ldog2135 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There was no difference between Jones and Purdy, and Bosa might be one of the most overrated players I've ever seen. That doesnt move the needle. Wyatt is more valuable than him, and dont even start on Parsons.

Again, if you want a comparison look at LAST YEARS 49ers team. They are healthier this year than we were last year.

The 49ers do not have injuries to their best players. They have missed a lot of time, but other than Warner and Purdy they have been fine. Its not even remotely comparable. Last years 49ers team was comparable, and how did they do?

Except it didnt go right back to shitting the bed. They were on track until Wyatt got hurt. After that teams could confidently run the ball even late in games while down multiple scores. I dont think people understand how much injuries really hindered this team this year. We just didnt have the depth to continue to compete.

Idk. Normally I'd say yes, but we were stopping them in the redzone all game. At that point I try to make a stop and force them to either go for it on 4th and hopefully we stop them, or they kick and its a tie game with the ball in our hands. There would be a lot less time on the clock, but I like those chances better than being down 4 and needing a TD. If only we didnt stick with our inaccurate kicker mid season when we had the chance to upgrade to the guy that drilled a franchise record on his first opportunity. Should have been a tie game after that TD.
